Following our 7-1 win over Blackburn yesterday and Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle today, Manchester United retain their place at the top of the league, with the same games played.

United are now two points clear at the top with the same goal difference as Chelsea, whilst the blues are level on points with 3rd place Arsenal.

From the last possible 15 points, Chelsea have picked up just 4, as they hit the self-destruct button with a few absences. Of course, there injury problems are nothing like United’s last season but are still too much for the team everyone seemed to think were guaranteed the title.

Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Antonio Valencia, Anderson and Owen Hargreaves, amongst others, have been out pretty much for the whole season so far, yet somehow, without even playing very well, have fought for top spot.

There’s a long way to go and with crucial games against Arsenal and Chelsea on the horizon it’s no good getting carried away, but that doesn’t take any of the enjoyment away from being top of the league as we go in to December.
