Manchester United have confirmed that Raphael Varane has signed for Manchester United. The French World Cup winner still needs to complete his medical but terms have been agreed between us and Real Madrid.

United’s interest in Varane started a decade ago, with Sir Alex Ferguson seeing the defender as one for the future back in 2011, before signing Phil Jones from Blackburn. But we’ve finally got our man, after Varane rejected Carlo Ancelotti’s bid to keep him in Spain.

Harry Maguire has proven his quality over the past season for United, and for England during Euro 2020, so the prospect of him being partnered with a world class defender is mouth watering. Both Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have had spells of good form but huge questions have been asked over whether they can sustain that form, with mistakes plaguing their game.

United are certainly sending out a big message to other European clubs in being able to lure a player at their peak from Real Madrid. The situation has been reversed on several occasions over the years but now United are the ones in the driving seat.

Reports suggest that Varane has been watching United games over the past season and studying the strengths and weaknesses of the team’s defence. He clearly has an idea of what he wants to achieve at the club and how he can help deliver some silverware.

Following the signing of Jadon Sancho, United fans are in dreamland!
