Last night, Manchester United beat Brentford 3-0 in the last home game of the season. Bruno Fernandes scored the opening goal before Cristiano Ronaldo doubled the lead from the penalty spot. The third was scored by Raphael Varane, his first goal for the club.
After the game, he spoke to MUTV about what it meant to him to get off the mark.
I am very happy. It is a very emotional day because it is the last game at home at Old Trafford this season. It was my first goal and a great victory today, so I’m very happy for this goal.
It was very exciting. For the first goal, it is always an important moment for the player in a new club, in front of these amazing fans. It was amazing; an amazing sensation.
It is very important for us to finish well this season. We know the fans back us, so we need to fight for them, and we need to keep pushing and fighting until the end for them.
After a disappointing debut campaign at Old Trafford, ravaged by injury and poor team performances, Varane has set his focus on next season.
Personally, it has been an amazing experience. To be a player of Manchester United is something special. Next season will be better. I hope to do a full pre-season to be fit and help the team as much as possible. I want to do the best for this club and for the fans.
