Manchester United have have today confirmed that Guillermo Varela has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a season-long loan, effective until 30 June 2017.

Varela was a surprise success last season when Louis van Gaal introduced him in to the first team. He played much better than people expected when bombing down the right wing as a full-back.

However, he got torn apart by Phillipe Coutinho in the Europa League match against Liverpool, forcing Van Gaal to lose faith in him.

Varela did get some game time in the 2-0 win over Wigan last weekend but Jose Mourinho obviously doesn’t see the defender in his plans for the season ahead.
