hmm, well taken penalty, bit dodgy the way in which he waited to be tackled. I would rather have liked to have seen him pull the trigger earlier and slot one past the goalies left hand, ala Ruud, but either way, scoring is scoring, goodfor him, his team and his confidence. Keeper moved way too early with the penalty kick, made it easy for Dimi.

btw; doesn't his run/assist remind u of similar style of play from last season, vsWest Ham where THAT piece of outrageous ball control set ronaldo up forone the easiest tap ins? BTW with his pen/goal, how was he not offside with that run? I thought the linesman is supposed to favour th defenders if the attacker has "half his body infront"

Berba will show with us this season what he did at Spurs. He will improve on last season and then some.

Talking of Internationals it looks like Tevez the cunt may be missing out on next years World Cup. It would actually be a shame if the Argies don't qualify as would be good to see Messi on the World stage.

When he's good, he's very, very good. Not much opposition; though the first goal for Montenegro was a stunner.

And, speaking of stunners - did any of you watch Brazil dismantle Argentina ? in Rosario ?? It was like a deja vue of the South American championship game a few years ago when the bigger, faster, more powerful, and well-disciplined Brazilians annhilated the smaller, slower, and undisciplined Argentines.

Argentina have become a one-man team. Heinze and Carlitos looked OK; Veron is a shadow of his former self; Mascherano seemed to think that the captain's armband gave him a carte blanche to foul Kaka and their defence is atrocious.

Brazil were "efficient" with only one moment of pure delight - Kaka's long through ball to Luis Fabiano and the poacher's delicate chip over the onrushing keeper. Otherwise, Dunga has a team in his own image - hard, hard, hard. They defend in depth very well; foul professionally; and are confident that Kaka and Robinho will find a way to get the ball to Luis Fabiano at least once when he will score. And, it doesn't hurt to have to best keeper in the world !

denton - spot on with your summary of Argentina v Brazil. For the first twenty minutes Brazil weren't in it. Like you say the Argies defence is shocking.

really doubt whether the argies and portugal will make it.what a story that would be ,the 2 best players in the wold not playing the world cup.ron and messi may miss out.brazil are looking great though.luis fabiano is really very impressive.

@king eric.hi mate.cant agree more .gabriel heinze is still selected .he dosent vevn deserve to play in divison one.and zanetti is 36 years old.still cant understand when they have aguero why does diego select cuntevez.

Argentina are still 2 points above the play-off position occupied currently by Colombia. 3 games left, I feel they will do just enough to qualify directly to the World Cup.

I thing Argentina will qualify also, but they need a proper manager soon, they have some good players but didn't seem to know how to break down the Brazil defense yesterday after going a goal behind. Just kept trying to go through the middle...

Portugal should also qualify via playoffs, they are too good not to...

Wish Bulgaria had a chance, and Scotland.. It would be great to see guys like Berba and Fletch at the World Cup

I don't mind if the Argies don't qualify for the World Cup. I don't like Tevez and I don't like Heinze. And what's the deal with Maradona, he's looking more and more like an ugly, short, fat woman, lol...

But it would be a loss for the competition itself, we all want to see big games between big football nations and Argentina is surely one of them. But it would be nice to see Ecuador qualify, then we'll see A.Valencia play.

But to stay on topic, I sure hope Bulgaria qualify because I want to see Berba play. They have to beat Italy next and then hope Italy beats Ireland, right?

King Eric @ 15:03 - Argentina hardly "dominated" in the first twenty minutes because the Brazilians were letting them come on to them in order to set up their counter-attacking game. What was surprising is that only their third goal was scored on the counter-attack, the other two were scored from set-pieces and the first - by Luisao - was so badly defended that I thought Gabriel Heinze must have been organizing their back four.

What's so "peculiar" about this Brazilian team is that they have two guys - Gilberto Silva and Elano - who were basically junked by their EPL teams. But Dunga's Brazil isn't the team of Garrincha, Pele, Socrates, or samba joga bonito players - it's more like a Mourinho team of tough warriors who play in the trenches. That makes Elano's inclusion very, very perplexing but not Gilberto Silva's place since he's basically shielding the back four and covering for Felipe Melo who, I am glad to say, didn't go to TheArse.

Argentina are in deep shit - they have to go to Paraguay on Wednesday and so far Diego Armando Maradona hasn't seen his team win outside Buenos Aires. Still, they'll make the world cup because even if they finish fifth in the South American championship they get the get-out-of-jail-free card by playing the CONCACAF fourth-place team for one of those very odd extra places. But even if they do win that round and get to go to South Africa, this current bunch is a pale shadow of what was on show as recently as 2006 - no defenders, no width, no central striker AND Gabriel Heinze.
