After breaking Tom Cleverley’s foot and receiving no punishment, Kevin Davies went on to make this awful challenge on Patrice Evra, which arguably should have been a straight red. Davies managed to get away with several more crunching tackles before Owen Coyle subbed the dirty striker off.

Interestingly enough, Match of the Day opted not to include this challenge in their ten minute summary of the game.

In a conversation with the programme editor on Twitter, the reason given was to focus on the football United played and of all the Davies fouls, the one on Cleverley was the most important. I questioned if it was Wayne Rooney or Joey Barton making a challenge like that whether they would have cut it out. “Think we would to be honest” was the response. Hmm.
