Alexis Sanchez played his first game for Inter Milan on Saturday, the club where he will spend the season on loan from Manchester United, and they beat Sampdoria 3-1.

It was just 20 minutes in to the game when social media came alive with talk that Sanchez had already scored for his new club.

Stefano Sensi struck the ball brilliantly from distance, but it was Sanchez who wheeled away in celebration, sliding on his knees, then pointing to the sky.

Replays show the ball clipped Mata’s backside on the way in and he had initially been credited with the goal, before common sense prevailed and it was awarded to Sensi.

Two minutes after going 1-0 up, Inter doubled their lead, and this time Sanchez rightfully took the credit. His excellent movement allowed him to stay just on side before running behind the Sampdoria backline for a tap-in, following on from another Sensi attempt on goal.

With 43 minutes played, Sanchez was booked for a foul, then one minute in to the second half was shown a second yellow for diving in the box and sent off.
