Premiership, 25.2.01, Manchester United 6 – 1 Arsenal
Manchester United went a massive sixteen points clear at the top of the table after our 6-1 demolition of title rivals, Arsenal. Of all the clashes between the clubs this has to go down as the most humiliating. We did beat them 6-2 in the League Cup in 1990 and they put five past us on a couple of occasions in the 60’s, but nothing compares to a 6-1 thrashing when you’re both chasing the title.
United scored after just two minutes but Arsenal gave their fans hope of a result by cancelling out our lead twelve minutes later. However, by half-time we were 5-1 up and sent Arsene Wenger back to the drawing board. Must do better.
