Nice one Scott. I hope our younger fans on the blog take the time to watch this video. It wasn't always great times, like now. Fergie struggled in his early years. Makes it sweeter, that he was written off by the media and some United fans as well. He came through all that and made Manchester United, the biggest club in world football. Not bad, for the man from Govan. ;)

Early days were tough. Fans couldn't see all the work that was being done behind the scenes and nobody had much of a concept of the complete transformation that was being put in place. We are all so lucky that United stuck with Fergie, but hindsight is always 20/20. Fans weren't much behind Fergie in the early years. Think it is fair to say that it was hard on all concerned. That is well and truly behind us, but the foundations are still serving us well. May still need to continually revitalize at every level from Academy to 1st team, but that is the new United way innit.

Come on United!

I can remember back I think it was about 22 years ago Sir Alex was the speaker at a gentlemans evening at Taylor Brothers club in Eccles Manchester . It was organized by the Eccles and District Referees . At the time we were fucking awful my friends and I went to give him some grief . Alex came out and you could here a pin drop, he started speaking with such passion it was amazing . Alex spoke for an hour and half he told us what was going to happen what his plans were . Everyone in the place stood up and cheered him when he had finished , he could not get out of the building. I remember one of the questions was why he kept picking Brian mclair he said because I pick the fucking team . From that night on no ever questioned any thing he does and we never will. This was one of the best nights I have ever had.

Daz, Brilliant really. On your cell...really! But thats what the club had then. We had nothing except outstanding support and great dreams. Dreams which couldn't have come out much better to be honest.

@Daz. ....That was awesome. Such insight illuminates the man and why he has been able to accomplish so much. On this side of the pond, I have been a NY Yankees fan since 1976. And much like the ABUs, the Yankees are hated by many far and wide. But they too were wretched for years on end. What many do not see is the commitment , dedication, passion and insight that goes into building a perennial contender and champion.

It is a salute to ownership as well that they shared the vision and stayed the course.

I was born in the early 80's so was lucky enough to be brought up during the transformation. My dad has never let me foget the old days though, Law scoring the goal to relegate us and those first tough few years when Fergie first took over.
There were tantrums in our house when I wasn't allowed to go to the pub to watch the 91 Euro Cup Winners Cup Final and my dad promised when we made it to a European Cup Final he'd take me. Kept his word and we had the best time in Barcelona in 99. He reminded me last week after the City defeat that the good times far out weigh the bad it's the tough times that make the good that bit sweeter. So thanks Fergie for 25 years of the good and the bad with hopefully many more to come.

I tell you what guys. I've followed the club for 17 years and the first United game I watched, I was in primary school and we lost 3-1 at IFK Gothenburg. I am still 28, but damn that has been a lifetime full of great moments.

180th game for us in the Ch.League today by the way. (Costat)

Back to the thread I must admit, I was part of a sit down protest in United Road back in those dark days! This one particular match saw Sir Alex dropped Sparky! To the tune of "brick in the wall" the chant was "Oi fergie, leave mark Hughes alone". I was young and impressionable!!!!

Costas - I remember that game. As you say, we lost 3 1. Sparky scored our goal. Pally give away a penalty. I think, anyway! :P I know we went out in the group stages. That was the season, we got a spanking at the Nou Camp. 93/94? At least we won the double! :)

Stupid UEFA rules meant that we were limited with the number of foreign players on the pitch... I remember the spanking we got, fucking Romario killed us.... Cantona was left home if I recall correctly
