I'm compairing this with the reaction of my fellow man utd fans in our pub- yea it's brilliant- but one wonders from time to time are we normal??? If a scientist is with us and measures our blood presure or heart beats - we're deffinitely in the danger zone- but- hey I won't miss it or trade it for anything. I'm proud to live united way :)

Just like my sofa. Don't suppose you scared any cats up in Brum though. Mine has recovered , fortunately.

Good man Giles, hope everything is going ok for ya.
It's a pity a few of the United playes didn't show the passion of our fans yesterday.Too many players pulling out of aerial and 50/50 challenges.I know it wasn't an ideal nighbt for football and Birmingham are not too bad but I was hoping for A bit more.Hopefully their trip to warmer climes will rejuvinate United this week. One things for sure,we will never get a betterchance to put two league wins back to back as our next two games.
Number 19 is still on,BELIEVE.

I have a couple of questions, if I may...

1) Why would anyone be filming this, rather than just watching the game?

2) Did no-one find the chants of "Who are ya?" hugely embarrassing, much the sort of thing we would expect to hear from the likes of Stoke or, indeed, Birmingham?

That's all.

Charlie - 1. Watching the game? The game that wasn't playing because the ref was talking to the linesman?

2. The chants were directed at the away fans six seats away from us who had been giving us shit since we'd gone a goal down, not to Birmingham FC as a whole.

Scott the red-

Thats quite a defensive retort...

1) As I stood there waiting for the ref to make his decision, I didn't have any thought of getting my phone out, and nor did anyone I was stood with, so I am just wondering why anyone else would?

2) I know to whom the chants were directed, but have rarely been as embarrassed by our away support as I was when that chant started.

I have come to accept that our home support behaves in such a manner, and our away support has been in decline for a few years now, but that chant was a spectacularly low point, hopefully never to be repeated.

Like I said in my first post, I expect the likes of Brum, Stoke, and a lot of other teams' fans to be chanting songs they have heard on Soccer AM, but we have always been a cut above these, and rather than posted on a United site, videos like the above are best forgotten.

Obviously, this is a subjective view, but everybody I have spoken to following the game was equally embarrassed.

Charlie - 1. If you wrote a football blog, maybe you would think about getting your phone out. I wasn't stood there recording the game but there was no football being played, I saw the ref having a word, saw our players running over, and it looked like it could get a bit tasty.

2. I think too much emphasis is put on how "top reds" should and shouldn't behave. It was coming up to 7pm after a whole day of drinking, we were all freezing our nuts off, we celebrated a goal, then had it taken away from us whilst the Brum fans were giving it, then had it awarded again. So a load of drunks lads just reacted and wanted to give it back. I think you've got too much time on your hands if you're busy getting embarrassed by our pissed up fans chanting "Who are ya?". Who gives a fuck?

Okay, you took the video for the sake of the blog. Did you take any of the WMP beating up innocent lads at half time at all, as I'd be interested to see it on here if you did?

Top Reds - great phrase, means nothing.

If you think that chanting "who are ya?" is acceptable at a United away game, there is very little point in trying to argue my case as you are clearly a lost cause, but I would have expected more from a mod of a United forum.

As for "who gives a fuck?", the vast majority of our away support gives a fuck, as it is the last refuge of anything resembling what our support used to be, and while it is on the decline, muppets chanting shit like that will only hasten it.

Maybe next game we can spend it singing the Torres song, or perhaps we can do a rendition of "The Great Escape" like every other set of clueless gonks we play.

Which is exactly why I put it in inverted commas. People get caught up in the social etiquette of football support as a United fan and I think it's a load of bollocks. There were people smashed out their faces round us and they got daft on it. I don't think we need to be worrying ourselves with feelings of embarrassment over it though.
You are right to worry about the decline in away support though because the tickets go walk about from the ticket office. I bumped in to a lad there who I know to be an Arsenal fan (he's going out with a blue lass I know) but got a ticket off a mate and thought it would be a good day out. When any old knob ed can get a ticket for United away, then what can we expect? That is down to the club.

Yes, it is down to the club in allowing any Tom, Dick or Harry apply for a ST a few years back having expanded the stadium, giving them the right to apply for aways.

These new fans are the ones who have no idea of United's history or match-going culture, and know only what they see on Soccer AM, or at OT, which is now like going to the pantomime, but with less noise.

They have started to infiltrate our away support, and we had a good example of that on Saturday. I'm assuming you aren't one of these, so how can you condone "who are ya?", as you must be as aware as I am how embarrassing it is?

Tickets were exceptionally easy to get hold of for Brum, as I am sure you aware, but that would ordinarily mean that all the fans who wouldn't normally get tickets manage to do so, thus creating a top atmosphere, much like we had at Barnsley.

Alas, it was not to be...

I concur. Some of the warriors on display at Birmingham were, frankly, upsetting.

People singing "come a United Road" and "United Aggro" when the closest they have come to violence is the violent farts they let off after their latest round of bum fun, is always a bit distressing.

Why try to be something you're not?

Completely agree with Charlie, the basic issue with our away support's decline is due to a complete lack of understanding about United and their history and laziness. The truth is United easily have the most unique and quantified songbook in Europe, yet resort to copying Tim Lovejoy from a Saturday morning. Scot talks about not being embarassed one bit, well that says it all about our current situation, how can you not be?? Chanting a chant that rings around every other stadium in Britain, a chant that originated from the London clubs? A chant that amuses the little clubs if they manage a goal against the bigger fish, so much so that they can barely contain themselves with fits of laughter afterwards

"Ha, ha, that told them and their 25 differents songs they threw our way".

A chant that people think has got some sort of comical meaning. Scot, don't blame a day on the ale either for getting carried away, that is no excuse at all. Your probably a decent lad, but, unfortunately you, along with half of our away support nowadays has just watched far too much Soccer AM. I

Charlie - I'm not condoning the chant, I'm just not going to get myself worked up over it. I'm not going to feel embarrassed on their behalf though.

I don't know about OT being like a pantomime with less noise. We get our ear drums almost blasted out for a good 30 seconds as the players walk out of the tunnel. Wonder if we'll be able to sue the Glazers when our ears start bleeding.

I don't feel embarrassed on their behalf, I'm feeling embarrassed that I am by default associated with these divs, and hope they find it a lot harder to get tickets in future.

As for eardrums blasted, I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about. Do you mean the music being played, or the apathetic "roar" from the 75% of the ground who are only there to be able to tell their mates about it on Monday, and who have filmed it on their cameras or phones to prove it?

Apologies for the rather cynical posts, but I'm feeling a little depressed this week with the current situation we find ourselves in, and the state of what was once our club.
