LVG is really on top of his game tactically I really have to say. Here we are busy trying to figure out what kind of back four based formation he is going to use and then bang. 5-3-2. Didn't watch the game though but it seems that's what everyone is saying. Everything is up in the air right now. I have no idea what kind of targets he'll be looking at if any. 3CBs at the back will suit Jones especially. You can tell he hates being moved around. He has already said he wants two strikers in his team but with the Young, Nani substitution, you have no idea what his definition of striker is. Could we be set up primarily like Netherlands in Brazil? One thing is certain though. Kagawa could be on his way out. I say this because he said something that some people think was a jibe at Moyes. He said we have no balanced team because of four number 10s. I'm counting,Mata.Kagawa,Rooney,Januzaj. Who is most likely to leave? The least versatile. Rooney as a number 10 in my opinion sucks but then he can play deeper and upfront which gives him the edge. Mata has just been signed and has been largely impressive. Januzaj is one for the present and for the future and can play wide too. That leaves Kagawa out in the cold. I think for him to stay he has a lot of serious impressing to do in a very short time and if he doesn't take the opportunity he can say goodbye. I'll be sad to see him leave but the ball is now firmly in his court. Nani too. These two guys have to do exceptional things beyond everyone's performances. Nani has to seriously outperform Young,Valencia and Januzaj in this tour. Kagawa has to outperform one player. Juan Mata. And that my friend is not likely to happen. Personally I don't like 5-3-2 or any 3 CB variation. I like attacking midfielders as opposed to emphasis on width. Just my preferences. I was hoping to see a Mata,Kagawa,Rooney and RvP attack. But I think LVG is right about the balance issue. We have too many players in attacking positions, too few players in CM and an unbalanced full back situation. We have to let some players go. I was hoping number one to leave would be Ashley young but he tends to perform well in preseason so that's that. I have to be honest, there's a lot of bias on my end when it comes to Young or Valencia. I don't like those types of players and I'd always cringe when Young scored because I'd be thinking that means he is gonna be on the next game. But you have to give him credit for forcing the more fancied players out. I prefer Nani to both Valencia and Young but he tends to disappoint when he shouldn't and brings your hopes up in some games with brilliant performances. Same as Kagawa. Though in his case he had been unfortunate not to be trusted enough through the middle. But I'm also tired of inconsistency. If these two guys don't perform or impress during the tour then goodbye

I feel Kagawa still has a place, unless he can be a bait for Hummels or Reus. The first half, Fletcher was sitting deep and Mata stayed further forward. Herrera was the one linking Fletcher to Mata. Each player was covering different area of the pitch.

In the second half, Cleverley was sitting deep. Kagawa and Herrera was sharing the same area in front of Cleverley all the way to the forward positions. It gave the defenders much more to think about.

I would think it is an option to have. Although you can say Rooney can play the same role, but hey, better having options than non.

I think and hope so that Kagawa and Herrera could be brilliant for us in a 3 man midfield with a sitter in behind them (Carrick) and allowing them to link play from midfield to attack, a lot like the Xavi and Iniesta combo Barca have with Busquets sitting deep, of course that means Mata will have to play on the right hand side of a 4-3-3 if we went that route which won't be too bad cause we'll have 3 midfielder's and Mata will be given more emphasis on attack.

The MLS is not sh*t. Moyes was.
The difference is LVG. We sent a similar squad to the similar "sh*t" Far East, last pre-season, and he could manage only 2 wins out of 7!
Coming events cast their shadows!!
LVG is that good. I saw enough yesterday to see he is TEACHING our players.
And I can't say enough for Herrera. I will stick my NECK out and say he will be better than Scholes was!!!

United24 - Paul Scholes was the best player of his generation and the best central midfielder in English history (Bobby Charlton was a number 10).

So even though Herrera is very good and promising so far i dont think you can compare him to Scholes. Scholes was regarded as the best by Zidane, Xavi, Fabregas, Iniesta, etc etc

@ Wayne. MLS ain't shit. Moyes barely won at far east . Moyes was so horrible that he gave us nightmares. Kudos LVG. Thank God that nightmare is gone.

@Mirainashe

LVG said he is playing 352 because hes got 4 strikers and named them and cant have 3 of them sat on the bench so his defination of a striker is the same as everyone elses. Wayne is spot on MLS is shit, end of story on thaat one.

Been working shit loads so only just seen the match, what a start to the LVG era, looks like we will be playing a 3 4 3 formation next season, Herrera looks a player and what a moment for young Reece James, 2 on your debut and even youngy bagged a brace, couldnt have asked for a better start to the LVG era

@United24

Nonsence saying Herrera is gonna be better than Scholes, thats impossible.
