Brilliant find, great for people to be reminded the pre-Premier League history and greatness of the club.

Just look how packed the stadiums used to be, would love be in that crowd - what an atmosphere it must have been.

Thank you for the fucking Football Media jammering over the voiceover from the clip (superb, incidentally)! I honestly wish RoM quit auto-starting sound in commercials, it detracts greatly from what could otherwise be a first class football site.

It's a pity we have never seen the first couple of great United teams Sir Matt built, that of 1947-52 and the Busby Babes of 1954-58. Even from that limited footage we can understand what marvellous football they were playing. Keep up this kind of videos please

"We did really well last year. We didn’t just win it; we won it in style after the previous year, which really hurt us. We want to retain the title now. That victory parade was incredible and it makes us want to win more and more." - Tom Cleverley

this is what drives this team year after year, after losing in such a crazy way, the next year we win it with a crazy margin.

@WeAreUnited

No offence mate but this is some amazing historical United footage here. It's quite rude of you to completely ignore the video and hijack the thread with some meaningless soundbite from Tom Cleverley. How about showing a little respect, firstly to the players in the video - who laid the foundations for today's United "superstars" - and secondly to Scott the Red, who was kind enough to share this brilliant find.

Love seeing this stuff. It really brings home how things have developed and changed. But also how bloody good these players were at a time when a tackle could break your leg and not even be a card. I have no doubt many of those players would be top dogs today.

Incredible stuff. Johnny Berry - what an awesome talent on that right wing.

All those fans packed in like that and the majority with those clapper machines. Is there a statistic of how many people got there noses broke by the pillock in fronts clapper. Is that why mancs are so ugly, lol. They were the only ones celebrating.

RVP said "They can think what they want to think. It doesn't matter to us. What matters to us is the way that we work. Trust me, we will work very hard. It's a huge challenge to all of us and it is one we are looking forward to. I hope it will be the same this time [as last season] as I want to win more this time. The club wants to win more. Last year we won the league and that was great but this time we want to win the league and more as well."

The 29-year-old was vital to United regaining the championship and underlined his hunger to keep on improving. "I don't let things get in the way," he said. "I want chances every day, every session, every game. I just see big opportunities. I still have more years left and it's not like I am saying: 'Yeah, we won the league so that's me done'. I want more now. It makes me even more hungry. I was very hungry last year but now I am more hungry. We have a great bunch of players so we can win more and do better. I always try to do better than the day before so, yes, I can do better than last year."

With José Mourinho back as Chelsea's coach and Manchester City replacing Roberto Mancini with Manuel Pellegrini, Van Persie understands that United will have to raise their levels of performance. "We have to improve to stay ahead of them because over the last few years the English league has become better and better," he said. "Every single team has got harder to beat. Everyone wants to be successful. Moyes wants to be successful. He has been working very hard and he has spoken to every single player individually.

"It's different [without Ferguson]. Of course it was a great year last time. It was my first year with him and the first year at the club I had with him. It was a great year for the club and we all did great things together," he said. "But now it's a new year and I am very much looking forward to it with a new manager and staff. For now we have the same players. He [Moyes] is very nice. He works very well. It's only based on a few sessions but I loved them."

Great stuff Scott. Keep it up. Its a shame that all this ended too soon. Real Madrid wouldnt have won 9 european cup if this team played for longer time. We would have won some. Pity.

A great watch! Football is a simple game as they say ball and 2 goal posts and you can see the talent there on the pitch and the love of the Club. What would be a fantasy team is if someone could analyse all the United players and put together a first X1 made up from all eras that would be competitive today. Also, past fans defo look like they make more noise than fans often do today at OT, 4sho. We need vuvuzelas and clappers and cheerleaders get some noise going sometimes. A conductor of sorts is required. A master in the art of noise.

Reds land in Yokohama, Japan!!!! Match tomorrow. Kagwa, Smalling and err...Young (deep breath @ denton), have also arrived in Japan. Lads looked tired coming out of airport, that's a 9 hour flight, then another bunch to Hong Kong and the 11 hours or so to London. And they can't even drink on the flight. Will do well to shake the jet lag for match tomorrow combined with all the commercial stuff they have to do, which is a-lot.

Fair enough, I never gave the "ronaldo will come back" any hope anyway but mourinho seems intent on getting involved in everything united, seems to have some bitterness for not being considered for the united job.

@ samuel - Maureen is clearly bitter about not being offering United job, which everyone knew was his dream job and what he wanted, he is talking more about United than Chelsea. Must cry himself to sleep the cocky little Pete Doherty lookalike.

These are magical and historic pictures, for which many thanks Scott. Some of you will know that I have drawn attention before to the availability of these old Pathe and Movietone Newsreel clips in my article on the history of the term 'Man U', included in the anthology of my United writings kindly published by Scott as an RoM e-book , 'Red Matters - 50 Years of Supporting Manchester United' (sorry about the shameless plug!).

These clips are easily accessible on You Tube, plus many others, all fabulous insights into United's history. I just wish someone would collect them all together properly and issue them as a classy DVD in the correct chronological order with contextualising material.

Relating to my 'Man U' article, hope you all noticed the use of the expression 'the United' in the commentary on the clip from the early '50s (the Fulham match when Stan Pearson scores). I first really came across the term in 1960 when an elderly United supporter assisted me after I had fainted onto the platform at Euston after Spurs had thrashed United 4 -1. He gave me a wonderful bag full of old photos, programmes and autographs relating to the Babes and those who had died at Munich. As I have said before, I felt I was being handed something to be held in trust in memory of those who died.Anyway, this lovely old gentleman, who was still distraught at the loss of such great players consistently referred to the Reds as 'the United', a term that was alreay passing out of use by then. Nice to hear it used in the old newsreel.

One of the reasons I like to write about the history of the United is to repay the kindness of that old man who gave me as a perfect stranger such a fabulous collection of treasures. I only wish I knew his name!
