good to see fletcher back! nani seemed a little better here than in the EPL games so far ;p macheda was also not too bad - he's a really big lad! i was a little worried when we went 3-1 down! did not expect it - the set piece we let in after half-time was a terrible goal to give away - only thing was it was still early in the second half...phew!

job done!

Berb and Rooney to start on Sunday by the sounds of what SAF said after the game....... Am I the only one that wants Owen to start instead of Berb more regularly?

Good goal in the end, he had a decent game in general, I think if he got a prolonged run in the team we'd start seeing the half chances put away! Nani once again absolutely shite. Nevillle showing his crossing is still immense, more of an attacking threat than both Nani and Valencia (who had a bit of a quite game in my opinion, nothing seemed to quite work tonight). Macheda I thought did well, couple of great turns and unlucky not to score really. Evans truly is going to be a world class defender. Lastly, have to mention Obertan, makes me excited just when I know he's going to come on, few nice touches and runs, is going to be a top top player in 2 - 3 years.

It would be nice if we can buy both of them in the summer, we need another atacking midfielder-second striker

I agree with you on that point. I want to see Owen involved far more. His runs are dangerous and even though he may lack a little sharpness he is still going to put the ball in the net more often than not.

If only he scored the fourth and the winner, just like he did in the derby. Oh well, drawing always better than losing.

I thought Owen was quite today to be honest. Aside from his goal of course...

Great goal by owen justifies that he's still one of the games' deadliest goal poachers and his movement is intelligent he's at the right place at the right time. about tonights game i'm so relieved that we at least got a point out of the match and we did'nt lose the game just goes to show that there is no other club in world football who has a better never say die attitude than ours. tbh the last 15 minutes we absolutely battered them and our unbeaten streak might possibly continue it was good psychologically not to lose. We are United!:-)
Bring on chelski at the bridge!

I am sorry but nani has shown he is just poor not good enough for united, he does not carry the ball with such skill obertan showed in 10 minutes what nani has failed to do since he arrived, yes he had a great game against arsenal when we beat them 4 0 but obertan showed he should be playing. The right hand side like one united fan said lacks craft, with so many times the RB getting rotated Valencia seems one dimensional, he has to bring variety to his game, but obertan was just a breath of fresh air. Some say he is like ronaldo he reminded me so much like zinedine zidane, his physique teqnique ability to play people in was magical but I am not going to go overboard. And he did not even have to try to ghost past players, and obertan is the player I have been banging on about we have been missing someone direct and creative spark. But the wide players who started tonight were very disappointing especially nani who must realise he will never be ronaldo ever in a million years, he is just not making the right decisions, on the plus side scholes Neville obertin Rooney evra were the positives.

Fletcher needs Anderson alongside him But it would be good to have Giggs in the centre of midfield. Oberon is class. I would like the following to be the starting eleven on Sunday.

Van in goal. Neville. Brown. Vidic. Evra. Fletcher. Anderson. Valencia. Owen. Rooney. Oberon. Strong defence. Strong play stopping midfield and great attack. Berbatov. Giggs. Carrick. Macheda ready to change the game in the second half!

should be seeing a video of michael owen's pk after fletcher was 100% fouled in the box! fckin' ref bottled it, and gave fletch a yellow card on top of it.

I didnt get to see the match, only highlights on sky sports & the goals on here of course.

With Owen, if he keeps getting games i think he will start to convert more of his chances. At the moment he is not as relaxed as he could be which will come with time!

one thing for sure they way he plays he will get more chances than Owen and Rooney as he is always looking to dart into that space.

For me this weekend although i know its really early but if we loose this one it will be very difficult to take the tittle away from chelsea!

For me our saving grace last year was the poor form of drogba, when on form he is a points making machine! Simular to what ronaldo was with us at times!

This weekend i expect a high tempo game of a more counter attacking nature! I hope owen and rooney play up front although i think Berbatov will play with Rooney and Owen coming on in the last 30 or 20 minutes!

Here goes

That match was pure football entertainment. Wasn't too fussed about the result because we were clearly going to go through. Finally a great game in the group stages. The Champions League is another definition of shit football. Tonight was a good game though.

The defending wasn't great but rather today than Sunday.

Against lesser teams, Scholesy is the maestro. Him and Nev rolled back the years bigstyle tonight.

Owen scores again, great positioning and awareness of space and some day he's going to bag a hat-trick.

Nani, my patience has gone. He will go this summer at the latest.

Akinfeev looks class. I believe the rumours will turn out to be true and we will be the team that signs. He's only 25 as well.

Although only playing 15 minutes tonight, Gabby Obertan looked the real deal. Pace, already a good understanding with Patty and Wazza, trickery. I like him. Let's look next summer and see who is the better player, Obertan or Nani.

Roll on the fucking flukey rentboy Russki's.

Roll on Real next round, if they get through :) apparently we miss Ronaldo, have the media seen Madrid without him.

So that's 1 defeat in 43 games when Fletch is playing. Tonight he was getting forward more which is good in these games, in my eyes he won a penalty and hit a rocket in the first half that was inches away.

He is our perfect player.

valencia-nani-owen goal.. superb!

the problem vs chelsea will be our attack..

- rooney needs to play the full 90 to keep chelsea on the defence
- berbatov needs to be there to bring another dimension to attack, but i've never seen him click well with rooney's game
- owen goes well with both, but so much more with berbatov but he can't risk a full 90, berba is capable of controlling the ball and passing in the toughest situations, and owen take any pass that comes his way and get it on goal

berba & rooney to start and then owen in for rooney?

hmm.. saf will probably stick to the regular berba & rooney start and owen in for berba in the 2nd half.

if only our defence were as rock solid as last season, then we could afford to go a little crazy with 3 up front lol

The negative comments about Nani in this thread are ridiculous based on last nights matche. I might have known that after valencia ran into a cul de sac, mis hit crosses and lost the ball 99% of the time, that it would in fact be Nani who looked dangerous, put in several EXCELLENT crosses, set up Owen for the first goal and put the ball on a plate for Valencia who didn't attack it- that it would be Nani getting the stick! He had a really good game last night.

He has tremendous potential and often frustrates but to slate him on this occasion is ludicrous.

Brett i am with you on that, I actually thought Nani did well he isnt ronaldo and probably never will be but he put himself about yesterday, set up the first goal, although he faded as the game ran on i think he was unlucky to get subbed. Like owen i think he would really benefit from a run in the side.

Valencia - the jury is still out for me i think he has had abit more luck than nani had but, valencia is 10xs more frustrating for me than nani.

owen... class well taken goal, his movement was second to none but like someone else said you can tell his sharpness needs a bit more. but give him the chances and he will score no doubt!

With regards to Nani i feel we still need to give him more time...One thing for sure is that Fergie doesnt suffer fools gladly> lets all remember that he sold Kanchelskis, Hughes, Stam< Butt, Sharpe, Gilespie when he felt was right for the clu.. Point i am making is that he is far from shy of making big decisions.

In Fergie I trust! only a fool wouldnt have faith!

My Views on our Defence!

With regards to defence i think there are a few factors contributing to why we have looked poor in this area at times.

1 - Consitancy - Too many changes.
2 - Fitness - Rio, Vidic, Evans & Brown have all played whilst not 100% fit this year.
3 - Missing VDS - Defence was a little Apprehensive of Foster which made them slightly nervious> I have faith in foster but he has yet to prove himself. Until he does that it will always effect the defences Mentality infront of him.
4 Rotation of Midfielders - For me i am a big fan of starting the defence from Midfield Back. If you have a steady 2 defending ie Fletcher and Carrick they become acustomed to their role. We have rotated quite a little this year in midfield to accomadate, Giggs, Anderson, Scholes, Carrick and Fletcher. Some games it works to freshing things up but at times we need the consistancy of players playing week in week out!

One thing that bugs me is that it has been obvious that Rio and Vidic have not been fit during games. Slightly off the pace. The Press jump on them making a mountain out of a mole hill and also implying that United have a problem... In my eyes we dont, just need to get them fit thats all........
