Well, despite the opposition resembling a pub team, there were some sharp finishes on show tonight.

And more good news, upon walking through the door tonight I've seen that my no-price-increase-this-year season tickets have arrived complete with some good old fashioned Glazer generosity in the form of vouchers for free beers, pies, museum tours and other goodies.

Woohoo.

im liking the look of chicarito, definately some possibilities for several starts this season, nice to see owen back, great flick by him. park looked amazing going by those 2 goals, nice to see evans pick up one too

Ignore him willierednut, can't teach an old toff dog new tricks. Why he needs free vouchers for pies I'll never know. On another note how shit is the Irish League. A Sunday league team could have put up a better fight. Hernandez is going to make a lot of ABU people eat their words. It was good to see Valencia use his left foot to score a goal. Evans finally score, and what a finish from Owen hopefully he can stay fit and do a lot more of that next season. Parks picked up where he left off from last season in terms of goalscoring.

damn missed the game, came home from work went too sleep, was sleeping at 4pm did not wake up until 9pm, I totaly forgot about the game, I will watch it on MUTV at 1030, but we are now starting too find that gem of a striker who can take the pressure off rooney, add valencia and nani who can get us say about 14 goals between them I really think we will win the league, lets hope united sign Lessana diarra to give us more legs in the midfield too play 424 so we can get the best out of valencia nani rooney hernandes

I thought Micheals goal was pure him. I shouted immediately. Paddy and David doubted immediately.
Can you not see the ball movement and the players stance and posture.Mind age at 70 Paddy catches up with yeah. Eh lol
Total star we have found, well our scouting network. Total class drifts in the box like a ghost and clinical.He is is gonna be "RED" hot for us.
I feel good we have central defenders that are scoring Goals again, Well done Jonny.

Owen is sublime. Park is brilliant. I do reckon that SAF is right to say that this team is good enough. If hernandez, berbatov and owen can support rooney well, we can regain the title. with 4-3-3 formation may be we can get away with the midfield issue.

willierednut - I agree, he is uniteds ace in the hole, this united squad seems so strong its far better than the squad of 06/07 season, the key signing has been vidic, we know rooneys future was never in doubt, but a fit and firing and focused vidic it has made us a stronger unit at the back. we add valencia nani obertan has our flair wingers, experience of park and giggs, upfront we now seem to have quality in rooney and hernandes add back ups of owen macheda berbatov welbeck we have the best squad if the pieces all come together

@Willie bang on mate. In this era of doom and gloom around United why not look for a chink of light and enthusiasm. Thats not to suggest we dont have a barrowload of great players to achieve all our wishes and ambitions.
The only thing in his "Negative" players from that part of the World invariably screw up. Apart from that shite at Citeh. But he as we know is a freak of nature and will let them down as he did us.

willierednut - has you have read my comments over the months, 2 area's that needed improved is? the engine room, and? upfront

now united seem to have sorted the CF position, but for me the engine room has always been a concern for me, forget an attacking midfielder, all united need is someone like lessana diarra I really hope we sign diarra, because a midfield patnership of diarra and fletcher, and letting valencia nani rooney and hernandes attack teams left right and centre could be the perfect platform too really go for more than the premiership

No idea about Carrick had an abysmal feed 1st half. Its not going to do him any good though because

A) No pre-season due to world cup involvement albeit only training
&
B) Quite a few fans are chomping at the bit to get on his back.

If he is injured we need to get someone in or not let Cleverly leave. Gibson definitely staying put so I can see him or Scholes starting with Fletcher to begin with.

@ Costas...ankle injury. Not to be a saddist or anything but it might be a blessing in disguise by forcing Fergie's hand in the transfer market, or letting Clever Tom stay at the club and not going on loan.

Yeah it has been one of those disruptive pre seasons. We've reached the point where the Chelsea game will be our last big friendly before the season kicks off. And there's always the danger with these WC players coming back so late in pre season.

We only have 3 games in August, so hopefully Fletch, Scholes and Gibbo will handle the load.

RTNK - Diarra could be an option, i think at this stage, thats the type of player we should be looking at. As for ozil, i did hear he doesn't want to go to Madrid, or Barca because he doesn't think he'll be a automatic starter, so a move to the premiership could be on the cards, whether it's United, i don't really know.

@ Don Pablo I'm inclined to agree with you on this one.

@ Costas. Fair point about august having 3 games but we don't want to be caught with our pants down later on in the season. Hargreaves is dead, and god only knows if Anderson will be back. We do need someone but if we don't its not the end of the world as long as we don't get too many injuries.

Özils comments sounds like he got an early contract with another club for the season 11/12. Whether it's a club in Germany or England is hard to tell, but not many germans move in foreign countries.
I think he will transfer in Germany, maybe to Munich. Can't really see him at United, although he's talented, i think he will not fit mentally. The pressure will be to high for him.

Looks like John O'Shea will be played in midfield if worst comes to worst with further injuries...

Some nice football played today, but lets not get carried away here - if these Irish players were any good they would be playing in England in the Chamionship or something

After the 3 games, there's the international break, so hopefully by then Carrick will be back and Anderson will be getting closer too. But in his case, everything is in the air. And as you said, we have to avoid anymore injuries over the next month. Because this time it's imperative that we start on the right foot and take full points in the August games.

I agree OneUnited Giggs can do a job there as can O Shea. I'll just feel more at ease if we had a player where centre mid is HIS position not just do a job and I don't mean any disrespect to Giggs when I say that. The thing about Carrick is when he does come back and he probably won't be match fit is everyone is going to get on his back about his lack of form from last season. Its not going to help. Not looking forward to Sunday because can see that atrocious Wembley pitch fucking things up, hopefully chelski lose some players to that pitch for a change.

Yes Giggs and O'Shea are also options, if things get worse there. However, I must say that a Scholes-Giggs central pairing doesn't seem too encouraging to me. I guess no matter what happens with our midfielders, the only one who we can't afford to lose is Darren.

Well, NotoriousRedDevil, I think our midfield is light but the situation is exaggerated. Unless we have a freakish injury crisis like last season's defence, I think three proper midfielders should be sufficient for more than a few games.

Just checked out willierednut's link about Cleverley. Seems pretty final. Good luck to him. I think it's a good club for him. Hopefully he will play a lot and come back next summer ready for the first team.

on another note... Smalling looks like someone who could grow into a defensive midfielder role in future... every single time he's played he's looked good on the ball bringing it out but defensively looks absolutely shocking, always getting turned by defenders cos he's too tight.

anybody watch that program, Football's Greatest on Sky?... Smalling has some Franz Bekenbaur qualities (only a bit though before people say I'm crazy)

Exactly Costas, if Fletcher gets injured we are fucked. Thats why we need Anderson back and play like he did in 07/08 because that season he was a better player than Fletcher. If he could do it then he can do it now just needs to mature which I'm sure he will. Fletcher can't play every game to immense levels and thats why we need someone else I've been saying it since I came onto this blog about a year ago. No update on Hargreaves whatsoever or should we call him Blomquivst II. Get someone else in or we will be relying on someone to step up which may or may not happen. Gibson is a totally different player from Fletcher but if we don't get someone in the fans will look to him and if he doesn't deliver will be made the scapegoat.

If the money is there just go Werder Bremen and give them £20 million for Ozil or same amount for Diarra (prefer Ozil). Lets not piss about like we did with Berbatov.

Very good to see Owen and Valencia get good run outs. Both could be
key. Rooney needs competition, which this was defo not. I wager Rooney
will be a different sort on Sunday.
Me thingst Valencia could do alot of damage this year. With Owen/Chicho/Berba/Rooney as
proper poachers, Valencia could help gloss over some otherwise marginal performances in CM.
Park looked good, other than the hair, GAM ! Elvis reborn!

I have to admit Chicharito looks really good. He score in every matches so far and he runs fast, quick feet, good technique and has the speed to beat defenders and be at the right place at the right time.
It's hard to leave him out.

To be fair to Ji Sung, I was well impressed with his performances for his Country in the World Cup. The Man's more than just a wide player as we all know. All the talk of Ozil and hardly a mention of Park all summer. Alright, Ozil got a few more goals but I know who I'd rather rely on in a big game.
