Rafael van der Vaart has been linked with a £20m move to Manchester United to make way for Jose Mourinho to bring his own players in to Real Madrid. The 27-year-old playmaker has been tipped as a replacement for Paul Scholes, who will likely retire at the end of this season.

He has apparently been a fan of United since the days of Mark Hughes and after struggling to make the same impact in Madrid as he did in Hamburg, is looking for a move away. Liverpool have been linked to the player, although he has distanced himself from those rumours.

The price may be a stumbling block for United though, particularly when you consider Real Madrid paid less than £15m for him just two years ago.
