@mattbw7 - oops! I forgot to click submit and lots of other comments between mine and the one I responded to! Usually the sound is coming from the Stretty, a shame but at least those who want to sing can do with others around them. The rest of the ground feels like a family section of late.

@mattbw7: I never said that I expected Rooney to be as good as he was last season, read all my comments. All I said was that he was pretty much rubbish for 80 mins and yet most of the fickle fans started saying he's back with a bang, he's the best striker and what not. Learn to read mate.

Fair enough ABC, I couldn't work out if you where having a go at the stretty, though in truth thats not always as loud as it used to be, I can even remember rivalries between different sections of the OT crowd "can you hear the K Stand sing, no no"

Fuck me ABC, read all your comments!!!
He wasnt rubbish, you cant really say that and provide convincing evidence from last nights game, I'll concede he was no better than a 6/10 and taking that pen was a risk that could have blown up in his face.

@Costas

its just how berbatov is.. he wants everything to be perfect... even in training if you missed it... he was moaning even then and rooney was laughing at him.. berbatov will always moan but they all know he doesnt mean anything by it.. its just his personality... he wants everything to be perfect.. no harm in wanting everyone who gets paid 100k+ a year to be able to make a simple pass? not asking for much is he but i agree.. it does look bad and i am getting pissed off with it.. i hope he gets a sitter on saturday.. he really needs a goal to boost his confidence.. taking him off doesnt really help.. seeing as rooney played even worse... i read someone said that who else would u want to be takin the penalty... erm sir ryan giggs was still on the pitch.. remember them two against tottenham? but in the end it was a good penalty from rooney.. lets hope he can score a goal without someone else providing him a chance from the spot.

Now I dont want to blacken besties name but it cannot be argued that he cut short his UTD career with his well documented issues but I'm reminded of the famous comment by Sir Matt, along the lines of "we had a few problems with the wee fella but I prefer to remember his genius"

Mmmmmmmmm I wonder what Sir Alex will be saying in a few years time about a certain wayward star.

We played OK against a mediocre side and got let-off the hook with a penalty, wouldn't be getting too excited in all honesty. Our lack of penetration from midfield continues to be a major worry.

VDS: (7) Hadn't a huge amount to do throughout the night; Rangers had the majority of clear-cut chances but hadn't the quality to punish. Stood-up well to Miller and his quick reaction to Naismith was impressive.

O'Shea: (5) For all the abuse JOS has received on forums this season, I actually think he's been playing better than at any other time; his passing from the back and through midfield has been impressive and his willingness to get forward at relative speed has impressed me. His delivery into the box is what lets him down continuously but he remains a fantastic squad-member and utility man. His performance last night was below par.

Smalling: (7.5) Another impressive display from the young man, he's a quick learner and appears to have the concentration, desire and attitude to reach the top. I'm very happy for him considering the pressure he's been under since his arrival; it can't be easy to climb the ranks so quickly and hold your nerve so well.

Evans: (5.5) Evans form continued from were it left-off. He's obviously going through a sticky patch and his confidence has been dealt a serious knock. His lack of composure during the Naismith incident could have been very costly. I think the lad has the talent to succeed but needs some more time and mental training.

Fabio: (8) A great performance from the young man. I was absolutely delighted for him, considering his lack of opportunity with the first team. He was like a breath of fresh air on the left hand side. Pat has had an indifferent start to the season and I'd like to see Fabio take some of the responsibility from him. I think we relied on Evra almost as much as Rooney last year and I'd like to think he can take a day or two off this year to rest himself. We really are blessed with our defense, great talent and attitude across the board.

Nani: (4) Nani was non-existent throughout the game, admittedly there was a packed defense sitting in front of him but his contribution was nil. I'd like to see a massive change in attitude, if the kid knuckled down and worked on the basics of his game he could become a good player, his over-reliance on natural talent is a great shame, along with his laughable petulance.

Carrick: (7) A reasonably composed performance by Carrick. Aside from one Hollywood pass, there was little penetration but plenty of 'space-marshaling' - his greatest asset continues to be his ability to read opposition attacks and narrow the space available to them. Carrick loves these games, the opposition sits back and allow him time and space to push 10-yard passes around the centre of the park. He is what he is, and in my opinion that's a midfielder without the drive, ability and strength of mind for a central midfield role at Utd. PS - I don't like being overly critical of the guy, because I think he's a good lad.

Scholes: (7) Not his greatest performance for us but still managed to dictate play and tempo. I never tire of watching the Ginger Prince ping balls around the park, instigating play as he does so. Scholes is the standard bearer in Utd's midfield, we've got very high standards at Utd and we need people of high ability to dictate play. I don't like having a go at any of the lads in the squad but there is a gulf in class between Scholes and the rest. We don't need an overhaul, just a very talented central midfield player to partner Fletch for 6 years.

Giggs: (6) Tried his best but is obviously in need of some games to regain match-sharpness.

Rooney: (6.5) It was a mixed-bag for Rooney on his return to the starting line-up. He stuttered at times but there were definite glimpses of the player he was and could be. Some nice crisp & quick passing between Rooney, Berb and any one of the midfield 4 & Fabio. His energy levels quadrupled for the short time after the penalty, I have a feeling he will regain form immediately on finding the back of the net from open-play. When that time comes is anyone's guess. Well taken penalty.

Berbatov: (6.5) Lots of effort from DB last night, which isn't something that's often leveled at him. He huffed and puffed but hadn't the lungs to blow the house down. I'm not a fan of his whinging and apathetic attitude but he's got a lot of talent and if he works as hard as he did last night on a continuous basis he might just be around next time the Autumn leaves hit the wet pavement outside OT. Lovely through ball for Rooney, which was spurned.

Subs

Anderson: Injected some purpose and energy into the midfield but didn't contribute anything significant to comment upon.

Hernandes: Saw little action.

Obertan: Saw little action.

Suarez is the player who is too good of a player for Ajax. I don't know what the 7 game ban has to do with his quality as a player. Nevertheless we have our own talent and the point is a bit odd.

Fze123 - I wasn't saying it's not right in criticism of Scholes, but his passng was far from atrocious mate. Maybe the fact, that Scholes will play a pass forward, means he'll give the ball away more, than Carrick, who does play a lot side passes.

Corea - the fact is it takes a lot more than talent to be a United player. He's a scumbag and I wouldn't want him anywhere near our club ever. Rooney may have made some forgot about that point recently, but a big part of our club is the integrity it has and it's something that Fergie is keen to instil in his players and I don't think he'd touch Suarez with a barge pole.

Yeah I feel the same about his body language. I don't mind it and I think it's gone on long enough to suggest that Fergie and his team mates don't mind either. It's not like he looks to blame those around him and neglect to that to himself. He expects a lot from those around him and from himself. It's a shame this drought is burdening him like this right now. I'd have kept him on last night tbh, but Rooney needed 90 minutes under his belt.

It was actually me that said that line about the penalty. It's just that I consider Rooney our first choice penalty taker. Giggsy has done the business when it mattered most as well. But I am more assured when Rooney steps up tp be honest.

Did anyone notice how good Fabio was??? A couple moments of indecisiveness and bad judgment but otherwise, he was amazing. If only he stays fit and gets more match time, he could lock down the left back position for the next decade after Pat calls it quits or leaves.

I was at the game against WBA just after Bestie passed on, wow it was so emotional as Im sure you all know GB made his senior debut against WBA and they had the surving members of that team on the pitch as we held a minutes silence all of us including the WBA fans holding up his picture and they joined in the singing of his song, a truly memorable night and probably what convinced my daughter who came with me (she was 12 at the time) to start coming on a regular basis.

On the issue of Berbatov having a go at Scholes, i hate seeing that, from him, i really do. I know some of you have said you don't mind and that the players are probably used to it by now but beg to differ. I don't think they appreciate it form him at all.

Giggs does it a lot but has earned the right to with his experience in the team. Likewise, Keane did in every game but when shouting at team-mates, he never asked any of them to do something he was not prepared to do himself. Keano used to have an awful go at Fletcher and Phil Neville but even now they have only praise for him and they say it made them better players. I honestly doubt the United players will be saying the same about Berbatov.

When he was with Spurs, he did it all the time. I have seen him having a right go at the younger players at United and in particular, Nani, but it's the first time i can remember seeing him have a go at any senior player. It's obviously frustration on his part for not having scored for a wihle but if i was Giggs, Scholes, even Rooney, (even cos he's been there for 6+ years) i'd be less than impressed.

He's a briallint player and i'm sure when he bangs one in the rest will follow, but leave out the moaning at your teammates - you're not at Spurs anymore.

I have to say that i hate seeing the body language and moaning at teammates from Berba. I don't agree that the players are probably used to it by now. He did it at Spurs and i thought when he arrived, he's not going

Giggs does it and it's accepted cos of his experience, and Keane did all the time but he never had a go at anyone about something he wasn't prepard to do himself. Fletcher and Phil Neville used to get grief from Keano but have both said that it made them better players and both view him as their inspiration.

It's probasbly down to frustration cos he hasn't scored for a while but having a go at the younger players, and in particular, Nani and now Scholesy will serve no purpose. The likes of Scholes have seen better players come and go and give out much less, and will not take too kindly to this kinda thing, in my opinion.

I think once the first goal goes in he will go on another good run, cos he's too good not to, so come on Berba, for fuck's sake, leave out this kind of shit.

I did notice that fabio intelligent runs.. He 's improving even though having very few opportunities but
also already reliable, I'm glad we are rich in defence now. Smalling and Evans need time to gel, but compare to other teams. Our young defenders have more experiences!

Seen that Rooney's celebration, he meant it he wanted it.. so bad!! All the past are history now which can not deny its existence but there is option not to remember it. so I choose to remember that he signed & stay .. now he scores., and make me happy.. keen to keep it that way!

Good points, well made in that unitedreligon piece.

I think we're all frustrated cos we just haven't seemed to get going, properly, this season.

One thing is for sure, we cannot keep relying on 36 year old Scholesy in the middle to create something for the forwards....

Giggs/Rooney looked willing but not as sharp as one would like. Same with Anderson - guess SAF used this as game to get match fitness for all the above up to standard. Evans and Smalling again looked dodgy when under pressure - Fabio has Evra in his sights. Carrick also played well - his reading of the game and covering off was very good (same can be said for Ando when he came on - took away any space Rangers may have had in the midfield). Berba sulked a wee bit but always at O'Shea whose final ball often leaves a lot to be desired.

Nonetheless a decent run out/training session with no real mental or physical energy lost - allowed a few players to get match sharp and appreciate the experince of a hostile crowd

Looks loke a full squad is going to be available now and that injuries are coming to an end. We will need at least 22 players of the 25 fit with League Cup/UCL and the XMAS and New Year congestion. Got to hope valencia gets back February and we start to "tick".

Reckon there may be some activity as to a Glazer sale Xmas/New Year

Jig3000 - There isn't a midfielder out there mate that can compare with Scholesey. On a different plain altogether. Sheer class.

Thought Carrick had another decent game last night and Amderson tried to drive forward. Signs that the team are starting to hit rythym. Some nice slick fast passing last night. NEVER easy to break down a ten man defence no matter who you are.

obertanthenewstar is spot on about Berba's body language and his berating of team mates. He demands perfection and balls on a plate not ones smashed at hundred miles an hour. His chip over the top for Rooney was different class. His team mates obviously don't give afuck so neither should we. If they did someone would have a word. As Obertan mentioned even in training he moans and Rooney was laughing at him with Scholes.

@ King Eric

I know you think that Berba's team mates don't give a fuck but if he keeps at it, something will give.

When Teddy had a go at Cole years ago, they didn't speak again. Now i know that also had to do with Teddy not wishing coley the best when coming on for him in an England match but they fell out cos of something Teddy said during a united match.

My point is that players are mentally fragile cos of their egos. They have so many agents/advisros/hangers-on telling them how good they are that when critisized they get wound up and upset and often lash out.

I haven't seen Berba moan at Rooney so no wonder Rooney's laughing. If he was have a go at Wayne we might see something different.

I accept your point that some players say he moans in training . For me, there's a difference between moaning about something in a training session and having a right go at your team mates druning a match.

When Ronnie's body language was poor in his last season for us, he was heavily critisized for it and i think, justifiably so. He even had a strop on him when subbed that time and that pissed me off big time. rooney was the same for a while, i have to say.

The thing with Ronaldo is that even though he wasn't at his best in the last season he still scored regularly enough so that the good outweighed the bad.

I would just like to see him appreciate his team mates. They too have all gone through bad patches but have come through them without blaming others publicly on the pitch. Just my opinion - not saying i'm right or wrong.

@Rosser

In my eyes, you either mind this habit or you don't. I don't mind a player moaning whether it's Berba, Scholes or Giggs. However, if I wasn't a fan of moaning, I'd have hated it no matter how well the said player was doing on the pitch. You mentioned Teddy and Cole. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if Berba and Nani are not best of friends. I've seen them exchange complaints on quite a few occasions in 2010. But you move on. I stand by my point. If it was an issue, there are plenty of personalities in that locker room to set him straight.

However, I'll separate Berba from Ronaldo's behaviour. Ronnie was throwing actual tantrums. The Fulham game comes to mind when he didn't get a foul from Pantsil. And thankfully we haven't seen Berbatov take any frustrations out on Albert Morgan.
