Paul Scholes scores goals - but he did so much more today.

His play in mopping up behind the midfield, linking the defence with the midfield, and pinging the ball all over the field was truly spectacular. Remember that it was his 50-yard arrow that sent Berbs in alone on the keeper - until Dimmy flubbed it.

I haven't seen a more complete, more dominating performance from the GingerNinja since 2006/7 when he was paired with John O'Shea and managed to hold together the team to win the EPL.

After watching today's performance - really, it was a masterclass - it is apparent that he simply can't be replaced. SAF will have to find another guy to play another way when #18 finally hangs up his boots and quietly shuffles off to his mansion, to sit in front of the fire with his little kiddies on the edge of the Pennines.

Absolute crap performance tonight but great to get the 3 points.

What does concern me a lot is the injuries we are picking up again. All season its been defenders now Evans and Brown (who were playing shite anyways but still like to have them as back up )

A bigger concern are the strikers.

Berba playing with a injury all season and its showing.

Owen out for the rest of the season

Rooney now with a niggling Knee injury - those things need rest which ehe won't get until next summer with this years WC looming.

Who have we got left? Diouf has looked good in the reserves but thats the reserves. Macheda just coming back from injury.

Christ I hope we dont have to rely on Diouf and macheda in the big games coming up.

This is now why I think Fergie should have got someone else (with all the Ronnie money, but I think we all know why he didn't, cheers ypu glazer bastards)

Anyone see the Aaron Ramsey hoopla at the Emirates? Not one, not two, but THREE different giant "win it for Aaron" banners; the Arsenal squad came out for the match wearing "get well soon Aaron" t-shirts and if I'm not mistaken, there was a minute's applause for Ramsey before the match! :-D I think the term is "grief junkies."

One other thing, during the match a Burnley player executed a perfect sliding tackle to steal the ball from Walcott. What followed was even more embarrassing than the pre-match Ramsey-themed festivities. Walcott squared up to the Burnley defender, accusing him of a dangerous challenge, while the incensed Emirates faithful bayed for the poor guy's blood. Meanwhile, captain Fabregas hounded the referee, imploring him to take action against the Burnley player. Let me reiterate: it was a perfectly-timed tackle, as clean as you'll ever see! :-D These guys are unbelievable.

That Wenger is a smart old bastard. What the injury means to him is that he can put pressure on every ref in every game to 'protect his players', and he'll do it. All the good managers do it, they complain about this and that and it's a monkey on the ref's back. Wenger is all kinds of a bastard but he is above all else a worthy adversary and he will use everything he can to get an edge, even his injured players.

As for today's game I think United were pretty good, we were certainly not as bad as Wolves made us look. What Wolves did is what any side needs to do against United, they got at us all over the pitch and made everything difficult. It turned the game into a real battle and I think the lads did well to match Wolves in a scrap front of a crowd who were really up for it. End of the day we didn't take all of our chances and neither did they, but it was a fair result and just the kind of win we won the title with last season.

Man of the match for me was Berbatov. Lone striker is the hardest job in the game and he did it, he held the ball up and he created plenty. He barely got a shot away and lost the ball a few times, but looking at what he was up against, hell he was getting closed down by four or more defenders at once sometimes. He kept his cool, kept plugging away, and every so often he'd squirt the ball out through the mob of players surrounding him and something would happen. He put in a real shift. Second would be the Scholes, he was a true midfield general today and he had to be. Broke up opposing play, launched our own attacks, scored the goal and never looked like he was losing his cool or his focus. What a pro.

A game like that is never going to look pretty and a team like that is never going to let you play the sort of football that makes it into the best bits of the season montage but I think the lads really dug deep. It's an even better result for the fact that it was achieved with a depleted side, and every win when you're team is on the mend is a big plus.

Lastly regarding Diouf, I think he looked great right up until his final touch today. He should have bagged two and fair play to him his positioning was great, but he needs to get goals before the Forlan effect sets in.

Doghouse - great post.

Fred - ha nice one mate, those Gooners really are pathetic. I notice they don't actually have pictures of the trophies on that tacky Ramsey banner a la the Eduardo one. I see Wenger is saying that Ramsey will "be psycologically damaged by the tackle and will never be the same again". Hull will get points of those cunt's next week.

Thats another away game chalked off with a win for United.

@GHTT

It sure is great news. I like Sheasy a lot. Evra will finally have a chance to rest!

I think Joe Cole could be a good option for us as Giggsy will be 37 next year. On current form he will struggle to get picked over Park, Nani or Valencia, but he cna bring something different to our attacks.

next year hey will still be here but we have to "gary neville" giggs and scholes i think at Come thursday it could be the start of a Joe Cole Hargreaves rescue plan.
I think myself the fact that ir Alex has always liked Cole and Joe Cole is trying to get 100 grand a week in contract talks this could well be a plant of a story in the papers by joes agent to get chelsea to act fast because he wants to stay there
John Oshea is excellent news with Cover needed for players to rest or mend in the run in and noone can do it better than jonny

@GHTT

At this moment, this is just a poker game between Cole and Chelsea. But it looks like United will be his first option if their talks break down for good. You mentioned Hargo. We could potentially be talking about two new free transfers fo the 10-11 season.

I think this game summed up United to a T. It took composure and true proffesionalism from one of the greats of the game. The game was for the most part played at a relaxed pace and the fringe/young players looked just that BUT thats the great thing about United. Whereas Chelsea are playing week in week out their best squad and trying their bleeding hardest and Liverpool can only play with their top squad (whatever the fuck that could be) we're at the top of the league. The games we've played this year haven't really filled me with confidence of great things (dreaming of years past) but we're winning the league and leading the leg against Milan in the Championsleague whilst spreading play amongst the youth/fringe players and the seniors. That is a measure of a truely great team. Next year all our young/fringe players will have yet one more year of experience under their belts and the team even without additions will be better than this year. The same cannot be said of our rivals. Sir Alex is a GOD.

Costas - Hello mate. That is great news. All those idiots that say O'Shea is not a United player can now see how foolish they look. We have missed John. Hargo and O'Shea in the same weekend. Fantastic news.

King Eric @7:17: " I also fancy Stoke against the Chav’ today."

I hope not ! I want to see them playing all the time, playing the same first-eleven all the time so that they break down at EasterTime in the EPL.

I'd like to see them beat Jose at Stamford Bridge, too - for the same reason, NOT because I want to see Jose gloat (errrr, I'd really like to see Jose stick it to them, just not this time).
