Manchester United are preparing a £35m bid to bring Cesc Fabregas back to England,

Silly season. Don't see Cesc agreeing a United move. But Maybe this is a Moyes ploy to force Arsenal to spend down their "unlimited resources"!

"german steel in our midfield"
Although I agree that there are plenty of German players out there that would fit our side very well, we have had like one German playing for us since the second world war. I'd seriously not hold my breath.

Where's the confidence meter on that one?
I'll give 2.5% and that's generous.

@ Diego,

Wonder why that is the case, especially since Chelsea have had Ballack, Marin and Schurrle and in the mean time, Arsenal have lined up with Mertesacker and Podolski, there seems to be a dearth of German players having played for United at least in recent history. As for wishing, any one from Bayern's many would be a good signing IMO.

Why does everyone think we had a chance of signing Thiago?
Guardiola declared an interest in the player and 3 days later the player signs.
Transfers never go through that quick.
That deal was sorted months ago.
We made an inquiry and were probably told Thiago had his heart set on Bayern.
So we were never in the frame.
I'm not disappointed because I've never seen him play. I hate watching Barca and he didn't play very often anyway. I'll never watch YouTube video's of players because they are just for desperate cunts.
So all I've seen of him is his hat trick in the under 21 final and his goal against us.
The press portray it as a United failure because they love United to fail. So do some of our own so called fans and that's The Truth.

The thing is, most of us on here aren’t experts on Thiago. I have seen him play in the recent U21 tournament and a handful of times for Barcelona. He is a good player, but he certainly isn’t the world beater some have made him out to be. I am suspicious how many of those people have REALLY seen him play loads?

Also, if you are trying to convince everybody that he would pose a massive goal threat for us (as some have claimed), then you clearly haven’t looked at his stats:

Barcelona B Team: Apps – 59 Goals – 3
Barcelona: Apps – 68 Goals – 7

Listen, I know the lad is a good player – he wouldn’t be at Barcelona and now Bayern Munich if he wasn’t. But he isn’t the finished the finished product and he isn’t the best midfielder in the world. There are other players out there. Did I want us to sign him? Sure. Did we sign him No, he wanted to play for somebody else. So all we do now is move on and wait to see if we bring in somebody else. This really isn’t the end of the world as some are making out.

Bayern are now full of midfielders so i would think there is a chance we could get one of their players..We have NO chance on Fabregas, Xavi is 33 and iniesta is 29 and they just lost one other the replacement for these guys so Barca will not let Fabregas go..

lets not be silly here. thiago would have been a great addition and we all wanted him and are all gutted to miss out on him. we were definitely in for him, however, luckily we have people at united better placed then us to build our squad. were not going to start the season with the same squad as last season. moyes will switch and change things around, firstly he has changed the formation to a 4-3-3.. if the 1st game is anything to go by

Its not that we put in a bid or not. Its that we wouldn't have been successful if we did put one in. How is it that we can't convince the likes of Thiago that United is the place for them to ply their trade. And thats what hurts most (well me anyway).

Dan-young: Spot on. Would've have nice to get Thiago but understandably, he is very close to Guardiola and so chose to go there. Good luck to him, we didn't get him, let's move on.

samuel - united WE stand: Completely agree. There is very little chance of us landing Cesc, though he would be a good addition too! I'm sure we'll get someone. The difference between Sir Alex and Moyes is that SAF denied there were problems with our midfield, whereas Moyes has said that we are light there and insinuated we need to sign someone there.

Unless Farca are interested in a midfield player they're sure they gonna get. Highly unlikely though. That said what games are we playing at? I mean really, Fabregas? Its not as if we're coming from a position of strength or Farca are reeling from financial issues (or maybe they are). Ah well, silly season. its to be expected. Had the same last year with the transfers we missed out on and other B.S targets manufactured in the press

I don't think we ever had a chance to sing Thiago who was probably hedging his bets whichever club he ended up at.

I suspect like some on this board have pointed out that deals like this one are never that fast and it was a couple of months in the pipeline once Pep took over at Bayern.

And with Thaigo's agent being Pep Guardiola's brother then well, you do the math....

United were probably already sniffing around like any club on the look out would. It just didn't pan out. That's all.

I love how many in the media and even some of our fans see this as a failure of the club and especially of Moyes. It's ridiculous.

For the media it's in their interest to stir the pot a little as our club faces some inevitable uncertainty under a new manager and endless crap about how will United go on after SAF etc.

For our fans, uncertainty can boil over into frustration, because we don't know Moyes or the new management as we did Gill and of course SAF.

So let's all take a chill pill.

That's why I'm also not holding my breath for the Cesc Fabregas deal to come through. If it does, great. If not, let's move on.

We will sign in due course. @slim, i don't think it is all about united convincing player x to ply their trade here. So u think players do not have their preference? I am not sure that anybody can convince you not to go where u know Ūя̲̅ heart is. Come of it pals. Don't think anytime that man utd puts a bid for x player then he will just pack his things and come. Stop seeing players like fans. Thiago doesn't love man utd because he does not support us. That is the diff between u and them. U can break a leg because of the love u have for Man utd but don't expect every player to do same. If rooney that has bn here ever since he was a kid is trying to leave then some players just play for a team bcuz of what they derive. Fame.

slim..my opinion is that we have slapped in a pointless £25 million bid for fabregas to calm down uniteds fans. but more importantly the only reason the club would do this is because there is a bigger transfer on the horizon which will take a little longer and uniteds fans will go mad if they don't think we are going after anyone. united need to show intent to the new manager, and us fans need to be shown that moyes is the man for the job. so if he was to bring back a past hero such as cr7 or bring in the premier leagues player of the season then us united fans will be chanting his name from the very first game.

also from the way we were set up on the first game, then we need a left back that is always in the right position and not lost halfway up the pitch (with respect to evra, I think he is still good enough but we will concede a few goals this season with evra partly to blame, if we use the formation moyes used on saturday), also with the high defensive line we used then rio and possibly vidic will find it difficult as they will need pace to recover if anybody was to make it through onside (worth mentioning a high line is perfect for smalling and jones, due to their pace). our midfielders will need to be able to do a job with all aspects of being a midfielder, as ando, cleverly and carrick all seemed to rotate a bit with who held back whilst the other 2 had a free roam, and it means that the 2 wingers we play need to be able to pitch in with goals aswel as assists. so nani, zaha even januzaj will be okay, however young needs to become fit and Valencia can only really provide width, which all the other wingers can also do. basically Valencia needs to get his act together

No doubt players have their "preferences" BUT when the big boys come calling, they recognise. Madrid come calling for a player and the next thing you hear is "Its been my dream" "Only God knows why i'm treated as a slave" etc. We are a huge club and this is one aspect we haven't grown as much as I'd hoped. We have the effect in England but not in Europe and other parts of the world.
For e.g Berba was on his way to Shitty. SAF was having none of that. He showed up and the rest was history. Rooney was open to a Newcastle switch while at Everton. United said, name your price and we got him. Need to take that to the next level, well beyond the English borders.
Spot on about the fans love for the club though. Its borderline fanatical

Bigger transfer? Bale maybe? lol.
No need to placate the fans i feel. What good would that do. It could damage our reputation and tag us as shit stirrers. Okay maybe not as drastic as shit stirrers but i hope you get my point. I mean why do this if there isn't a serious interest.
One of two things if you ask me. Your theory or they really are interested in him. Our team could know something others don't. There could be a signing on the horizon for them (Farca) and are willing to listen to offers. I hope for the clubs sake its the latter.
Playing with peoples emotions like this . Not cool

I know What you mean, but if we don't get to talk to the player, how can we convince him?
I honestly believe the deal with Bayern was done months ago.
People are too quick to call it a United failure, because thats what the press are telling them.
We'll never know the truth unless Thiago himself reveals it.
There will be signings. Don't worry about that.
This time last year I had no idea that Van Persie would start the season in a United shirt.

I'm not sure the deal was done months ago but I do have the feeling they would have know pep was intrested but that Bayern needed persuaded to sanction the bid. After all they haven't made any attempt to negotiate the fee which suggests once Bayern ok'd the bid it was rushed through. Just look last season at how long they waited and haggled over Javi Martinez which went right down to the wire as they explored every avenue to pay as little as possible including supposedly finding ways around either club being liable for tax

Thiago was hedging his bets, trying to guarantee game time if he joined us but giving pep time to get Bayern to put a deal together.

I'm no fortune teller but the way the media are reacting to every perceived failure by moyes cannot be a good sign. I mean city lost 2-0 and while they played a stronger side than us I have hardly heard about it. I realise united are bigger and get more publicity but the coverage the loss of thiago and the friendly is ridiculous. Moyes better be ready for a lot of negative press. Our first 5 games are probably the most difficult to play and he'll be slaughtered for not winning each and everyone of them.
I think he needs atleast 3 wins and a draw to keep the hounds away. If he can stop Jose or City he'll be in a good position. However, he also seems a bit overwhelmed by the whole situation. The way he's talking about the players, it's as if he's amazed at the amount of skill and work ethic on display. He also talkked about getting an unlimited kitty, he just set himself up, coz the next question will be, why are you failing to land top quality players if you have the money.
Anyway if it goes tits up and he looses all the 3 top games at the start of the season then this will end very soon. 6 years? I'm giving it 6 weeks before the media turn majority of the fans and then 6 months before he succumbs.

OjM - Agreed. Cesc is a top top player, certainly more complete and perhaps ready for the grueling PL but it will be even nore to price him away from barca, he's actually one of the few quality back ups they have, can't see it happening at all. Agreed about moyes acknowledging that united need to strenghtgen the middle, we've papered over it for years, needs to be rectified

Barcelona shelled out €54M on Neymar. My guess is they will play him. And when they do play him, Fabregas could be the odd man out. Not that hard to connect the dots why United would table the bid. After all, Barcelona are still paying Arsenal for the Fabregas transfer. Its not as if Barcelona have a sugar daddy. They genuinely need revenue.
