It does give you a tiny insight into the constant media attention on players and managers. Vidic looked almost serene during most of that video. Ice cold.

Don't you get the feeling that RVP keeps hold of every trophy we collect now? He turned up with the Premier League Trophy in Holland, now he's striding down the tunnel with the Community shield looking the cat that got the cream. I think he's so happy to be finally actually winning something after banging his head against a brick wall at Arsenal, that he's Taking them home with him to put on his mantelpiece.

Moyes to win the Quadruple in his first season? Yes, why not? No point aiming low. In fact now that you've said it I'll be disappointed if it doesn't happen.

A couple of weeks ago there was a discussion about Rooney and some were saying that he'll need regular first team football this season as it's a World Cup year and he would be at risk of missing out on the World Cup if he's not being picked. Obviously the very idea of tabloid favourite "Roo" not going to the World Cup is ridiculous, so I remarked that Rooney could go the whole season without ever playing and he'd still be the first name on the England squad sheet for the World Cup. I don't think everyone agreed with that, but here we are on the eve of an England match in which Rooney is going to lead the line for his country despite having played only one match (behind closed doors) in months and the official line from his club being that he's injured! I think this farcical situation proves my point that Rooney's club form is irrelevant when it comes to "Ingurlund" duty, where he is basically untouchable.

Just want to say that I was very happy to see Phil Nev on the sidelines at Wembley - he just inspires so much more confidence and respect in me than Mike Phelan ever did - I always had the impression that Phelan was predominantly employed because of his natural ability to say "Yes Boss, right away Boss and I think you`re right Boss2.

Moyes will do very well at United, it may take a season, or maybe two but I think he is United through and through and has the Right Stuff.

I just hope we can add a midfielder that matches the quality we bought in RVP.
That is what we miss most of all and is the missing piece.

PS - Very classy to say the Charity Shield trophy was Fergie`s achievement not his.

I think it fair to say it is both of theirs. You still have to win on the day and Moyes was in charge on that day.

Well done to him and the boys, it is more significant than we can maybe appreciate.

@The Truth

We would all love the quadruple !
Three maybe, but we are off the pace for a CL win unless we buy some finished article midfielders.
All the rest looks good if we put Janujaz and Zaha on the wings instead of Tony Valencia and Ashley Young - neither is good enough and dont look like they scare any defenders anymore.

The effect of coaching v TV career. Gaz Neville looks 10 years younger and Phil Neville suddenly looks 60. He's even walking funny, all shoulders in rolled in. Snap out of it Phil! You are not SAF. And get those dentures back to Doris the tea lady, she's been chewing on the same crumpet for days.

If we get one of the big trophies and compete in the others, that'll be fine with me. No pressure Moyes. You only inherited a team that won the league by 11 points.

@ ManChestHairUnited - "can we get Fellaini already". Certainly not. Woodward is a very busy man. He is dealing with urgent transfer business, that has not ended, so these routine transfers can certainly wait.

Forget Fellani, for £14mn can we hi-jack Arsenal's Gustavo bid. That would be the top buy in the league so far. And one we really need.

NBI Red Moyesy August 13, 2013
We are taking to long going for targets. We need to push on. Gustavo is a young Hargreaves style player, exactly what we need. Good price too. We just don't see to be going for these players that are obvious solutions. He is in a different league to Fellani. Come on Moyes and Woodward - close this deal! This is where we miss Gill. He could pick up the phone to Bayern and talk business, a very English banker like Woodward with no footie background they may find harder to relate to.

NBI Red Moyesy August 13, 2013
@ danielandthebus - honestly, I know Moyes has a reputation for dithering on targets whereas SAF was fast to the draw, but surely Gustavo is an obvious buy. 26. More steel and nous than Thiago. Great cover for Carrick. It is painful to watch Arsenal get him.

Roy Hodgson is truely a muppet, no backbone, no authority. Contradicts United to say Rooney has no injury, and comes out to say Rooney will have a place in the England squad regardless of form, well done. What is he trying to achieve except trying to please Rooney? I would so love it if England doesn't make it to the WC

No way we will go for Gustavo, it's too logical and sensible. Let's go for glory signing Modric, who never wanted to join us, Bale who wants to join RM, or Ronnie who wants to stay at RM Lol! Is Woodward still hiding under his desk? Come out son. Work to do. Get a firm grip on that latte.:P

Woke up to see Rooney all over papers AGAIN!!!!!! Apparently he was out half an hour early for England training practising his photo angles. 3 more weeks!!!!!! Not a fan of Brenda. But I admire their tough line on Suarez. Point blank NO selling to a rival, Apologise, get your head Down. A real battle against player power. Lol!!! Let's see how that turns out....

This maybe rather off the mark but I wonder if the rooney situation is not a fergie and rooney deflect attention from the fact that fergie was retiring and also give moyes some time to settle and get a grip on the team. By placing rooney as the black sheep, he knew the media would focus a lot more on rooney and he'd take the spotlight away from the biggest shock the club has had since munich. That's why rooney keeps quite and will not hand in a request but will let it drag on until the window closes.
Alternatively, this was all fergie plan and rooney is quite confused as he doesn't understand why the club seem to want him out and yet insist he's not for sale.
I bet in september, we'll hear a confession from rooney, about the phone call he got from fergie, explaining to him that he needed to play along.
Off course this is all BS and the club could be holding out for a bumper offer of +50M but no one is anxious to pay rooney's wages and also pay 50M for him.

England will never win anything, a footballing nation of nearly-men, losers and frustrating dreamers. Those that are waving flags, prepare for more heartbreaks, the only emotion you will get close to.

Looking fwd to seeing how the England match pans out, let's see what form Roo is in. Will be great to hear more top commentary from Andy Townsend. Rumour mills on transfers are nuts, so much junk out there impossible to tell what's real

Andy Townsend at breakfast:

AT: "Well, you got yer eggs there, and a piece of bacon. Sausage might make an appearance soon..."

MRS T: "I know - I bloody cooked it."

AT: "You're my wife. I married you in a wedding ceremony."

MRS T: "I know! Stop stating the bloody obvious!"

AT: "Stating the obvious there; that's when something's obvious and someone states it."

*sound of gunshot*

Nairobi - I don't think you have any proof of the club wanting to sell him. All I see is speculation piled upon speculation. I can't see united handing rooney to jose mourinho, he will have to get his head down and fight for his place like everyone else, might bring back that sharpness back to his game as a fired up rooney will start all the games. He can leave when he runs down his 2year contract if he indeed wants to leave.
Rooney is one footballer that acts on emotion really, he probably is making decision based on emotion rather than logic, I think he will have a good ponder about his next decision, it could well define his career, you can't take a step down to a small tiny club with john terry as the shephered.

www.theguardian.com/football/2013/aug/12/nani-manchester-united-deal

Nani wants to stay and out of no-where could get a new contract. A huge talent that would give moyes another dimension. A new manager has come in, moyes would have had a word that nani should focus as he has as much chance as anyone to get in regularly and why not? He has the quality and another match winner. Why some are looking to dismantle the match winners is beyond me, you never have enough of them, madrid are packed with quality and have bought more, why can't united?

Nani definitely deserves a chance, he has proven himself as a march winner. No reason to let him go without letting him have a shot of showing what he can do for the new management

Indeed when Rooney starts playing he will give us great sharpness and penetration, after all he has been screwing us all summer. And I agree, he is emotional, show him £250k, he'll kiss your badge. Mwah. No logic to it though.

Several sites say Utd are in for Bale with Football_Mercado claiming 90m + Hernandez.

Really hard to get ones head around such an outrageous bid. Out of character is one way to put it.

Really doubt it to be honest.

Think it is just agents trying to get Real Madrid to actually bid 100m as was claimed last week.

Any sightings of Gareth Bale at Manchester Airport? ;)

Silly season part duex ! Bales of fabricated hay!

Seriously though, get over the wage thing. Rooney is fortunate enough to blessed with the talent needed in a booming industry he's getting paid the money that's being handed out to every other key player at the very top. Nothing more, It never bothers me.

Fletch - how united missed out on bale still baffles me. With giggs, you'd think the deal would be nailed on but somehow, united lose out. He actually was designated as a left back at the time but It would be a battle for him.to edge out patrice. He's developed his game as an attacker now but don't think united need him, certainly not at 100mill, levy can pack off with any thought of getting hernandez. United require proper central mids, all I'm seeing is fantasy signing.

I really hope we are not in for Bale. He does not want to come here. It would be embarrassing.

I really hope we are in for Gustavo. Hopefully Evra convinced Moyes we don't need Bale. Taking one in the balls like that, as if Baines could, who is the harder man? Evra.

It was kind of weird at the end of the Wigan game when we had no striker on, Barcelona like, I would have thought Welbeck would have stayed on to lead the line. Looking forward to Pea getting back. Does anyone know what is actually wrong with him and how long he is out for?
