Pogba left as people like Jones bought from outside and same age started ahead of him in MF, where Jones played badly. You can't blame Pogba for leaving. Juve gave him a chance to play and he took it. He has even said games was the reason he left. Money had nothing to do with it, United also dragged their heels over a contract.

Nani has delivered just inconsistently. I can't see how Zaha and him are alike, Zaha is more direct, very good decision making, v good crosser compared to Nani at that age.

Game last night was good to see Young players showing their consistent quality.

King cantona - if nani cannot cross and has terrible end product, why is he the most productive in both goals and assists out of the whole collection of wide players at united? You confuse "inconsistency" for "unpredictability". No wide attacker is consistent, go watch the likes of robben and ribery, two most inform wide players currently and see how they fluctuate from infuriariating to match winning, most do not understand these type of players and what they bring.

Zaha's career at palace has followed the same path, frustrates because he tries to invent something with a flick or dribble, may come, it may not. We'll see how his career pans out, he may be impressing now but there will come a time when he will frustrate just like all wide inventive players.

Yeah right, you are a poster who has a fascination for one or two players in the United squad and regardless of contrary evidence will bleat on continually of their greatness "most skillfull in the club"who when asked to explain why this "most skillfull player in the club" cannot despite many chances unseat the "one footed winger has no answer other than to attempt to belittle .Fucking pretentious dick.

Wee Toms Ligaments @ 03:57: "Contrast that to the movement of Evra and Rafael on the overlap and it looks like our wingers sometimes run out of ideas."

You could add Fabio and ButtNuts to that pair of overlapping wingers which is why I think it's counter-productive to have use two forwards-for-width. Better to keep it tight through the middle of the pitch with two "holding/defensive" midfielders and three "inside forwards/attacking midfielders" and a striker who can stretch the field vertically.

I reckon that this would not only bring out the best in Chicharito but also create space for TheWayneBoy, RVP, and KagawaBunga to do their thing. AND, I'm not bothered about how you describe this trio in terms of "position" because they could "do the whirligig" and freelance, interchanging positions as the match (and their instincts) suggested.

dannysoya @ 04:19: "And for all the potential Januzaj has he’s no Nani, not even close. I think we are taking this praise for youngsters into overdrive. Nani is still miles ahead of Januzaj."

An unfair comparison because Nani is at his peak age whereas Januzaj's future is still waaaaay ahead of him. FWIW, I think that AdnanJ has the "potential" to be an awesome player - but, as you say, potential means diddly-squat.

NOT TRUE - he was a sub in their last match; he came on in the 60th minute but didn't do much.

Samuel @ 09:32: I agree completely with your long comment.

Finally season begins and silly season is over...!!! Lol. Wanted to see Scott's post tour pre-season analysis up here, but sure that's comin.

Clearly, we r not getting Fabregas, Thiago might have been a poss if we'd gone in proper for him. Doesn't look like we're triggering Fellani buy out either. Wots your take Scott?

So wot we got. Same squad but some keen young players. Moyes gut the kids, that'll please em fans if you win it with kids. Scene set mark 2 - RVP = Cantona plus new set kids and some experienced toughies. Except nowt to knock of the perch bar in Europe.

The comment spot on is used far too much on this blog. But your post at July 30, 2013 at 09:32 is exactly that. Only in England would we be placnig so much emphasis on the defensive capabilities and tracking back of a winger as opposed to the attacking abilitites.
Infact wasn't the defensive winger developed at United? More defending than attacking? Never heard so much rubbish in my life. Old Trafford is supposed to be The Theatre of Dreams, not The Theatre of Defensive Wingers.

We'll only know how well Zaha will fair once the league starts...the early signs look positive...in some ways him and Nani are comparable...but as already said...in terms of decision making and execution...i think he will outshine Nani. Seen both playoff games for Palace...the first game...he didnt impress me much...2nd game and final was an improvement. Even then he was always trying a trick or two...did'nt always come off...but the one thing that impressed me the most was his passing and crossing as well as his unpredictabality. I think he has the tools to become one of the best wingers in the league over a very short time...if he stays focus. Im not gonna say anything about Nani that have not been said previously...only that i rate him and want him to stay at the club

Looks like we are going after Modric. Maybe someone should tell Woodward to keep his trap shut until they have at least had contact with the player (which I doubt they have), other wise he might look silly (ala fabregas situation).

"appointing Arrigo Sacchi as technical director of Real Madrid in 2004-05 was probably never going to be a raging success. He was the high priest of the team game, placing the structure of his pressing above all else, demanding players subjugate themselves to the system. The galácticos squad was a monument to individualism and celebrity, while the policy of "Zidanes y Pavones" was the definition of what Sacchi opposed in football.

"It was about managing the characteristics of individuals," he said. "And that's why you see the proliferation of specialists. The individual trumped the collective. But it's a sign of weakness. It's reactive, not proactive. We were like that at Real Madrid. There is no project, it was about exploiting qualities. So, for example, at Real, we knew that Zidane, Raúl and Figo didn't track back, so we had to put a guy in front of the back four who would defend. But that's reactionary football. It doesn't multiply the players' qualities exponentially. Which actually is the point of tactics: to achieve this multiplier effect on the players' abilities.

"In my football, the regista – the playmaker – is whoever had the ball. But if you have Makelele, he can't do that. He doesn't have the ideas to do it, though of course, he's great at winning the ball. It's all about specialists. Is football a collective and harmonious game? Or is it a question of putting X amount of talented players in and balancing them out with Y amount of specialists?"

Read this - and then think about what player/players would be "right for UTD" rather than just the flavour-of-the-moment.

Woodward needs to shut up about transfers. Moyes needs to stick to his policy about not talking about players at other Clubs. One negative against him, first he says he never does that, then he does that every press conference.

we are 1-2 quality central midfield players away from being strong enough to compete for CL title, talk less of the epl title. lets not forget we went out due to some dubious refereeing (even ignoring the red card, lots of penalty shouts missed on ramos and madrid defenders). we will miss fergie's experience with squad rotation, and handling the media and disappointments on the pitch and his man management, but our players have such a strong winning tradition and such a vast amount of depth and experience. just check this out:

--------------lindegaard
fabio---smalling--rio---buttner
----------jones---anderson
nani---------------------------young
---------------welbeck
---------------hernandez

----------------de gea
rafael-----evans---vida---evra
---------carrick---cleverley
valencia----------------------kagawa
---------------rooney
-----------------rvp

two fairly strong and completely separate starting XIs with guys like giggs, zaha, adnan, etc able to play roles when needed. our central midfield is of course not strong enough atm but if we can just land 1-2 quality players (gustavo, modric?), that is tremendous strength in depth able to compete with any side in the world if we keeps players fit and have decent form.

@soccerisfootbal Put Kagawa in Rooney's position and Zaha/young out on the left and swap Clevs for Jones in games when a bit of man marking or brute force is needed. I'm not too worried about stellar signings. Cleverly hasn't had a decent run of games since being injured by that moron Kevin Davis and Powell should be stepping up soon after surgery. Maybe bring in one mid as cover for injuries.
I think the players will give Moyes more if he doesn't buckle and panic sign someone. It's all about respect in these early stages. This group of players often get less credit than deserve (usually from us) and are capable of great things (reigning champs!). I don't think Alex would have retired leaving the team in limbo. If anything I think next year will be when something big might happen transfer wise (again only if it's totally necessary).
Maybe I've got my Red tinted specs on but fuck it. Let's give Dave and the boy's all our support. In David we trust (coz Alex trusts David)

What exactly has Woodward said on transfers because in recent weeks I don't recall him saying anything?

As for Modric utterly made up story. Don't want him anyway. Yes he changed the game against a ten man United but regulars on here will know I've never rated him.

Okay maybe too soon but very excited about Zaha. Even more so that my previous comments on him.

Haven't had a chance to catch up on the gossip on here but surely something must happen in the transfer market this week ey lads?

Don't see us getting Bale unfortunately... Not for a few years.. If he moves to Madrid maybe in a few years. Fecking hate that most players want to play in the Spanish league (Madrid/Barce... Oh well. I was hoping Bale's love of Giggs would work in our favour.

Dave can make his own mind up about me. Like I say, top poster - the best on here imo. Always talks sense and isn't a keyboard warrior, giving it "fuck this, cunt that" every other word like many on here.

What I've always enjoyed about RoM has been the back-and-forth with guys who don't get too worked up about personalizing the discussion so that they actually discuss matters.

We all thought RVP was made of glass. Turns out the Arsenal subs bench was.

Anderson isn't made of glass, he just needs regular first team football. Scholes was nearly always first choice when both were fit remember.

You might wonder why young Ando wasn't first team ahead of old Scholes without game time, but then you'd be a sycophantic sod every time you praised the ginger prince.

Just reading all the stuff on Nani and other players. With regards wingers i think United have been really spoilt with kanchelskis Giggs Beckham Ronaldo etc. Nani is a good winger and if they could encourage him to play the simple ball a bit more then he would be more succesful. He confuses himself sometimes and if hes doin that then how is anyone else ment to know what to do and where to possition themselves. With regards Anderson. Nice lad looks like hes carrying a touch to much weight. But in my opinion is he MANCHESTER UNITED STANDARD? Sorry pal not a sniff. We are one of the Ellite clubs in Europe and the world. We are missing some flair that player that will win a match individually from the midfield. Carrick had for him a great season but he didnt set our midfield on fire last season. Ronaldo now he could give you a hard on for 90 minutes. I think moyes has got a crop of youth that could be awsome but they need the Ronaldo's of this world to help develop there skills.

I did not watch the game so cant comment on the total display but just an observation that buttner got beaten very easily for their second goal. We have been leaking goals since last season. It would be a nice statistic to know how many were conceded because of defensive errors from each wing from last 2 seasons.
