It’s a bloody good job Nemanja Vidic is so well-loved at United because our feelings for him were certainly tested at the weekend. Whilst the team were all sub-standard, the result certainly could have been different hand Vidic just booted the ball when it came to him in the first half, rather than dithering and letting Torres in.
Regardless, his name was sung several times during the game after that point, including when he walked shame-faced towards the tunnel following his red card, with the fans letting him know just how much they thought of him.
Vidic is set to miss our next two league games following his second red card of the season, with Jonny Evans a more than competent replacement. However, whilst Evans is certainly the future for that position, we are not prepared to have that be a permanent arrangement just yet, despite the interest from Italy. His agent agrees.
“There is no truth in these whispers, because he is a first-team regular in the Red Devils’ side and is not for sale,” said Vidic’s agent. “He loves it in Manchester and Italian clubs cannot afford to buy him, nor can Spanish ones for that matter. He still has several years left on his contract and is settled there. He is European and World champion, why would he want to leave? Every other destination would be a step down.”
