Danny Welbeck put in a good shift against Manchester City during the weekend’s Community Shield game. With Chicharito out of the team whilst he recovers from a busy summer and concussion, Welbeck was preferred to Dimitar Berbatov to start alongside Wayne Rooney.
Ahead of the start of the season, Welbeck is hoping to push on from his loan spell away at Sunderland and earn himself a regular place in United’s starting team.
“My main aim is to break into the team and get a partnership going with whoever is up front,” said Welbeck. “You can’t say too much after one game, you’ve got to keep working hard and hopefully break into the team during the season. If I keep performing well, hopefully the manager will keep picking me. I’m feeling confident.”
