Towards the end of last season there were rumours linking Danny Welbeck with a move away from the club. The lad from Longsight has been at the club since he was a kid and there’s no questioning his love for United, but with David Moyes as the manager, he was reportedly keen to leave.
However, with Moyes gone and Louis van Gaal in his place, Welbeck’s happiness has returned.
“I heard the news (about Van Gaal’s appointment) and I am happy,” said Welbeck. “He is a great man, a great manager. Looking at his CV tells you he has managed at some big clubs.”
Welbeck is currently with the England squad in preparation for the World Cup and he’s looking forward to his chance to show people what he can do.
“You have to keep your feet on the ground, remain focused and just make sure you play your usual game,” he said. “I just want to prove myself – to me and to the World to show everyone what I can do. Going into the World Cup is a massive stage to do that and I can’t wait.”
