Manchester United won the Premier Reserve League North champions last night after title challengers Liverpool lost to Everton.

United were in a great position after beating Liverpool last week thanks to a brilliant goal from Gabriel Obertan.

This is the first time the Reserves have won the league in four years. Solskjaer has won both the Manchester Senior Cup and Lancashire Senior Cup for the past two years. They play the final Manchester Senior Cup group game against City this week for a chance to win it for a third consecutive year.

It is important to remember that this has been achieved with the likes of Tom Cleverley, Danny Drinkwater and Sam Hewson, who are all out on loan.

Sir Alex Ferguson has praised the team and coaches for their success.

“I’d like to say congratulations to Ole and Warren,” said Ferguson. “They’ve done a great job. henever we’ve appointed a new Reserve team coach, I’ve always explained to them what a difficult job it is because it’s subject to what I need. I may pull out three or four players from a training session or I might say, ‘these players can’t play for you on Thursday because they’re on standby for me on Saturday’. So it’s a difficult job.”
