on that subject, I have no idea why united are linked with inferior keepers, reina LOL, serious media, they think reina is a better keeper than DDG LOL. Heck I think DDG is better than casillas reina cech and hart combined

WeAreUnited January 8, 2013
yeah I also think DDG is better than those, the only one who is maybe a bit betetr is Casillas, but that comes for his experience and achievements, which DDG will reach here and when he starts playing regularly for Spain.

Nani I guess with many people, but Kagawa? how so? and I am about to go to sleep but briefly.

My opinion is, he's in his first season, he started well, got bullied and got injured. He came back very strong and has bulked up, his game against west-ham was not thay good, but the whole team was a bit asleep.
For example Silva struggled at his first season and now look at him. Kagawa is at the same page, and will flourish once he gets more playing time and partnering RVP and ROoney AND Nani :)

peace mate. of course sometimes we have t o agree to disagree, because it wouldn't be fun anymore and thank God everyone has their own opinions, which I always respect, no matter how I "fight" them back, it doesn't mean I am not agreeing, just that I see it differently.

Opinions can be changed :) it has happened to me.

Please please please. Why would all of you care so much about this. Every club in the world knows unless you are in Spain then only you will get to win it. Politics and rubbing sholders are part and parcel of this awards. This bodies are never in good terms with other bodies especially England and they are so many questions asked to how they fairly rate one player. God knows. How competitive is the spain league and how many goal messi can score against Real Madrid except scoring against 18 poor teams. Do we think Messi can score that much goals playing in England and will he get to win the awards ? GOd Knows.

Personally I think Messi is overhyped. Yes he has bags of skill but he is playing in what despite its plaudits is an awful league which allows him to score ridicioulous amounts of goals especially if you lay for Real or Barca. I mean Manucho who couldn't even make it at United (and couldn't even impress on loan at Hull) has only scored 1 less than Rooney, Berbatov and Tevez this season who are players he couldn't dislodge (and has scored more than Welbeck and Kiko who are players he couldn't beat to a place on the bench).

Ronaldo atleast has done it in another league that's more physical and generally has more depth making it tougher to score such numbers. So personally until Messi grows some balls and plays in a league where he wouldn't be able to score 90 goals a season even if he hacked his left leg off the. Ronaldo gets the edge.

Oh and as for the team. Some of the decisions are ridiculous made even worse by the Spanish bias. Ts as if they have forgotten to adjust their thinking based the quality and depth of the league when players in England, Germany and other nations had to work much harder to achieve what they did than most of the Spanish based players.

I am a Ronaldo fan more than messi deep down I am happy that he didn't win. Atleast now he should realise that he is wasting his time at real Madrid. The ultimate Insult for him would be when we knock Madrid out. Gone are those days where Real Madrid are best. They are just another top club thats it.

Its a voting process hence a person's bias plays a big part. LOL Look at these,

Captain Wales Ashley Williams ****** Messi Lionel Xavi van Persie Robin
FFS, No Ronaldo! How biased can you get.
Media Wales Paul Abbandonato ****** Messi Lionel Cristiano Ronaldo Piqué Gerard
Gerard Piqué third best? what a joke.

Captain Georgia Kankava Jaba ****** Rooney Wayne Messi Lionel Xavi
Rooney Before Messi and Ronaldo. LOL.

we have to take note that rvp was with arsenal when he did his feats and now he has just started doing them with utd, and also that we need to win trophies to put our players and manager higher in the list next time
ronaldo however seems cursed after leaving utd, he did not get any ballon d'or since leaving and i think it is time he returns home to get another one soon after :)
how about those rumours concerning lampard to utd...?

Can't understand why anyone would vote for Ballotelli.
Apart from being a tit what has he done on a football pitch apart from a few goals here and there.
One of the most overrated players I've seen.
As for the awards I'd say they got it right. Ronaldo deserves it but Messi just that little bit more.

Morning Reds. Liverpool at the weekend ! Ah yes!

Some stats to savor.

Howard Webb STATS:
LFC will figure its their turn as Webb has overseen 2 United wins at OT since 2010, including the including the FACup loss where Gerrard got sent off in 2011.
Also, LFC have only picked up 1 point in the 3 matches Webb has overseen for them this season. 1 point in 9 then! They must be sick of the sight of him. HA!

We have never lost to Liverpool at OT when Howard Webb had the whistle
... that said, old Webby always seems to favor the home side as we lost 2 fixtures at Anfield under his eye.

Have only gone back to 2005. Might have missed something.

Just seen this. How did Casillas finish 6th? Honestly. He's a good goalie but he's not had a stellar year and his ability on aerial balls is questionable. This actually goes to show that lobbying campaigns do work. All that early work Madrid did on their pro-Casillas campaign clearly did swing votes.

The simple thing is Messi is more of a likeable character and team player. Without Xavi and Iniesta playing with him he wouldn't be quite so effective as we have seen when he plays for Argentina.
Ronaldo is has more of a petulant attitude and plays for himself and individual awards. He also has a team of individuals playing around him and tries to do things all on his own.
This all counts and is why Messi won The Ballon D'Or. Because he went to Spain he will always be compared to Messi. In 6 years at United he won x3 Premier League, x1 FA Cup, x2 League Cup, x1 FA Community Shield, x1 Champions League, x1 FIFA World Club Cup, along with many personal accolades. In comparison to x1 La Liga, x1 Copa Del Rey, x1 Supercopa de Espana.
Ronaldo should never have left United and his time at Madrid hasn't been quite as successful as he had hoped. Had he stayed at United then we would have possibly been able to win more Champions Leagues. It's a shame how it's worked out for him but I can't see him being able to make Real Madrid a more superior team to Barcelona.

Kanoute, Forlan, Rossi & Manucho are just some examples of players who have made it big in Spain, but failed in England. How many players have come over from Spain & scored buckets of goals? Morientes was the only one who was close to a top scorer in Spain and look at how he fared? Torres was the odd one out, but now you begin to wonder if he was really that good or he had a prolonged purple patch.

Bottomline is, its easier to score in Spain, and that is a fact. So if Messi won purely based on his 91 goals, its flawed. It looks more like a personality contest.

Feel vindicated for my ratting on Wayne Rooney and saying that he is a piece of garbage as a person, a shite passer in the last third and doesnt control the ball very well.
Only 0.09% of coaches thought he was the best player in the world
less than Busquets I might add.
Coaches know what they are talking about.

No doubt straight back in the team when fit, not that we need him - look at the results.

Not the best player in the world doesn't mean not a good player. Coaches know best? You might want to take a look at past records of the funny players who got votes before you take those puny percentages seriously

@Goat Petticoat - his poor Euro 2012 and injury hit second half of the year had something to do with that.

But guess what? In last year's awards, he came FIFTH......and he was named in the World XI

Not bad for a shite passer in the final third..

#07 --- The reason that Ronaldo was talking about not being happy, and maybe why he looked really steamed at the awards ceremony, is that Real Madrid president came out months ago saying the club supported Casillas for the Ballon d'Or. Obviously such statements are going to sway many voters and the result, while never in doubt, might have been much closer if a large percentage of Casillas votes were translated into Ronaldo votes.. The story of Reals corporate "lack of support" for Ronny has been brewing for months and is fueling alot of the Ronaldo move stories.

While the club came out later and backed Ronaldo, it is rumored that the "Spanish Camp" in the RM dressing room all backed Casillas > CR7.

Wakey - any player who does what messi does is not over-hyped, if messi was at united, he would still score the same amount of goals. Messi is like ronaldo, not great at international football, put him in club football sides, he will rip sides apart. Do not forget, barca had a poor season last year, and he still was tearing sides apart, xavi iniesta and cesc had below par seasons, in and out of form. Also his performances against us, proved he is a special player

Messi overhyped???? what a joke.

For me the best thing to choose the best player of the world would be.

1. Firstly pick only 10 players.
2. After those players reduce it to 3-5 players, by a voting method or by trophies? just a suggesting.
3. After that, Vote those 3-5 players
4.Instead of voting 23 players and being bias
5. You are voting only 3-5 players.
6. DIlemma solved.

People have voted for freaking Gerard pique, who's not a bad player, but best in the world? never.

So instead of voting 23 players , captains coaches and the media votes only 3-5 players. therefore nobody would vote their favourite or friend.

We would really find out the best player. Instead of a friend voting for a friend or a fellow italian.

As for the best 11. I HAVE NO IDEA.

After looking at who voted for who with the tactical voting and the blatant bias toward Spain/la liga/Real Madrid/Barcelona it's obvious how meaningless this trophy is. Messi had a great year and scored a shitload of goals yeah great, it's also about when you score them, and football is a team sport, all he won is the Copa Del Rey with the most talented team the world has ever seen, and failed to produce in the important matches at the end of last season (Champions league semi finals and the home match against Real Madrid where they lost 2-1). Ronaldo at points carried his team to the la liga which they won with a record amount of points and goals. I bet he's pretty frustrated. Same with the manager award, Del Bosque has one of the best international sides ever seen to work with and other then Germany (who always flatter to decieve) no real decent teams to challenge them. Conte, Klopp and Di Matteo deserve it more in my opinion, considering what they have to work with and the level of competition they faced. The fifa team of the year was a joke as well, No Juventus, Chelsea or Dortmund Players? A strong argument could be made for Van Persie to be in it as well.

Call me heartless but summat is seriously afoot at Barca. Players and manager getting tumours and cancer and shit yet miraculously cured WEEKS later. I am glad they are well but fuck me they should pioneer medicine at that club. Never any injuries. Messi gets stretchered off in a game yet TWO DAYS later is banging goals in. When the whole Lance Armstrong scandal broke there were quotes that he had part of the same medical team. It will come out in years the Catalan cunts are all on drugs.

Somehow my post didnt appear earlier. Here is the breakdown

http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/ballond'or/playeroftheyear(men)/01/98/07/84/fboawardmenplayer2012-bycountry.pdf

Just to give some perspective to who are the voters. Its a no brainer if they voted for Messi or Ronaldo, and maybe to a lesser extend, Pirlo, Rvp and Inesta, all deserved some kind of recognition. Those who voted for anyone else is just taking a piss at the award. And for people trying to take the figures to play down certain player's contribution just because some nut case put in a crazy vote for some totally undeserved player, that guy who compared just drank the piss

Come on, Ibahimovic, Drogba, Buffon, Busquets, Casillas, Benzema better than Messi or Ronaldo?
WeAreUnited January 8, 2013
@Marq

they are not better, but to have 23 player to vote for me is ridiculous.

It should be 5 best players or 10 and to vote them.

Look at my post. Some put Manuel Neuer second and Özil third, how crazy is that, no matetr the country.

At least 5 players to vote. But how to reduce from 10 players to 5 or 3 would be the question.
I think with my example it wouldn't be that bias, even though Messi had alot of votes.

And won it.

this is where I will stick up for la liga, look at how united were outclassed last year in the uefa cup, so its not all bad. Many should hold their hands up and say, barca are a damn fine side. If la liga was such a joke league, look at madrid's performances in la liga, sides are able to exploit madrid. So I say its more to do with the standards barca have set, more so than poor sides. I think most sides in spain can give united a hard time, heck west ham have given united a hard game.

And PS, no way is messi overrated, not the type of performences he is giving, sometimes we got to just applaud and say, we are seeing the modern day best pele and maradona

WeAreUnited - sorry, sometimes I can be busy and disapear from ROM for a few days, what was the question

@FITB

exactly mate, people talkin like EPL is a one tough cookie, but Barca has exploited chelski, liverpool, arsenal and us TWICE in the Finals, so what's the point of saying they are poor.

Look at them in the europa league, they shine there, that tells it all. Also we were exploited with westham. Football is football.

Barca just has set a standard that it's hard to compete, you have t odefend your ass off against them and counter-attack and wich they are not in form. Don't talk like spanish league is weak, their top teams i ngeneral ain't bad.

SPL: Barca, R Madrid, AMadrid,Malaga, Valencia , Sevilla. Bilbao, They are good sides.
EPL: ManUtd, ManCity, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, , Everton. Liverpool.

Barca vs United -> barca has the edge 2-1

RealMadrid vs City -> Madrid has the edge

AMAdrid vs Chelski -> Falcao and Madrid has the edge

THESE are facts

Malaga vs Arsenal -> who would win? at this moment, I would say Malaga. A tough call.

Valencia vs Tottenham -> Tottenham was second after Lazio in the stage of EL and Valencia plays in the CL and went through. -> who would win -> I would say Valencia .

Sevilla vs Everton -> Who would win -> I would say Everton
Bilbao vs Liverpool -> who would win -> Liverpool won their division in the EL and Bilbao went down -> I would say Liverpool

So one could argue and say, yes arsenal won barca, and chelski also. well chelski did it, but arsenal didn't go through.

And in the CL, from 2007 or 2008 every team that has won besides Barca has had to win against them in the semifinals. Check it if you want.

why you taking it so personally mate.
and who talked about last season? I only mentioned this season mate.

Take a look at those comparisons, Barca has the edge, madrid has the edge, AtleticoMadrid has the edge. and the rest were only speculations and my opinions. I comoared the best of english againts the spanish. The spanish have the edge.

3 out of 8 mate, not bad. United 1, Milan 1, pool 1, inter 1. I understand what you mean.
From 2007 and on barca and United have been the mist oustanting sides in the CL. Unuted 3 times in the final and Barca won it 3 times ou of 8, which is alot.

And I made a mistake it was from 2008 and on so that you have to beat Barca to win it. And we know how hard is to win it twice in a row.

2005 Pool
2006 Barca
2007 Milan
2008 United -> Semi-final Barca
2009 Barca / United
2010 Inter -> Semi-final Barca
2011 Barca / United
2012 Chelski -> Semi-final Barca

It tells you all.

"United didn’t give a flying fuck about the Europa League last season, that’s why we were outclassed by Bilbao. "

And this is just crazy claims. I t was more that we were outplayed in that game and we thought a team like Bilbao would be a walkthrough. How wrong were we. United didn't want to win? cmon, you know it better than that mate.
You're a true supporter, and know those claims are bias and not real.
United always goes for the win. SAf stood in the dressing room and said, let's not win it, it's not important. Well the money is important for business, and United is a business.
That's why we brought RVP and Kagawa, so that doesn't happen again! We're no Arsenal!
Why did you even bring this up.

Like I said, I compared this season teams.

okey it could be. but I still don't buy the thing losing in purpose, no matetr what. agree to disagree on this.

But you brought last year up, when I compared teams in this year and also in their previous battles for some teams, and you suddenly started talking about Bilbao.

That's why I wondered your response. at the moment, and this is only my view of things, i'll show it again, and everyone can do their own judgement, you just brought a strange thing up that it wasn't related in this year:

THIS year, and I took Bilbao and Liverpool out.

SPL: Barca, R Madrid, AMadrid,Malaga, Valencia , Sevilla..
EPL: ManUtd, ManCity, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, , Everton.

-> who would win -> I would say ->Valencia . A tough call.

Sevilla vs Everton -> Who would win -> Secilla is struggling but they always pick themselves up -> I would say Everton

For me : SPL vs EPL 5-1 for me.

facts:

Barca vs United -> Barca has the edge 2-1
RealMadrid vs City -> Madrid has the edge
AMAdrid vs Chelski -> Falcao and Madrid has the edge

and the others are OPINIONS.

King Eric - I do not think we would steamole sides in spain, when we find it had to sop sides in england, I doubtt eading everton etc could do well in la liga, maybe just above average. Like I say, barca are just a step above the rest, and that is why they destroy sides. Because their dominating midfield, and ruthless aggression in attack, makes them that damn good. Until united get over the likes of scholes and giggs, we are going to be in dodgy waters at times.
