Tyrell Malacia has reportedly flown to Manchester today to complete his medical after a £13m transfer was agreed and personal terms finalised. He had been set to join Ligue 1 side Lyon before Manchester United stepped in at the last minute.

The 22-year-old left-back made his way up through the ranks at his local club Feyenoord, having joined them when he was nine. He made his debut as a teenager against Napoli in the Champions League. He made his league debut the following week and has gone on to make a total of 136 appearances.

His final game for Feyenoord was in the UEFA Europa Conference League Final which his side lost to Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

Malacia has also earned his place in the Dutch national team, making his debut last September and playing five games in total.

The signing likely spells problems with Alex Telles, and possibly Luke Shaw, with Malacia’s pace something that has drawn Erik ten Hag to the left-back. The United manager had initially been keen to take the player to Ajax, appreciating his positional awareness, high interception rate and ability to attack space. Since seeing the job Malacia did against Antony, Ten Hag has been a fan.

Malacia is represented by HCM Sports Management, just like transfer target Frenkie de Jong and current players Donny van de Beek and Victor Lindelof.

Reports suggest United will unveil the player on Monday.
