While the Jadon Sancho unveiling understandably got more attention, Manchester United announced other transfer news today. Will Fish, the 18-year-old centre-back, will be joining Stockport County on loan next season.
Having been included in a few matchday squads, Fish eventually made his debut for United on the final day of the Premier League season against Wolves.
Fish was born in Manchester and captained United at U-16 level, as well as being part of Nicky Butt’s UEFA Youth League squad when he was still at school, making his debut for the U-23s when he was still only 16.
Despite still being eligible for the U-18 side, Fish made 21 appearances for the U-23s last season, which was more than anybody in the squad.
The England Under-18 international has spent the last week preparing for the new season with the first-team at the training camp in Surrey, but is now heading somewhere closer to home.
County’s manager, Simon Rusk, spoke of his happiness at having one of our promising youngsters in his squad for next season.
I’m delighted to have Will on board for the upcoming season. We are all really exited to work by his potential and to have the opportunity to work with him and develop his talents. I wish him well on the next stage of his career with us here at County. We’d like to thank Manchester United for their help in getting this deal done, and for the trust they’ve placed in us to develop and look after one of their most exciting prospects.
